Dumplin is a miracle to even be alive this day. The way her life started out was very very bad. She is so so so lucky to be alive. I have had her since she was a kitten, only about 3 or 4 weeks old. She didn't get the normal beginning of a life that other kittens get, with nurturung, nourishment, and love from a mother cat. I was the one who had to play the role of the mother cat to dumplin. It was a very one of a kind experience.
I found her, deserted on my front porch when I lived in Tennessee. I was laying in bed and kept hearing these loud cat noises. I thought it was a 2 male cats fighting, so I turned over and tried to go back to sleep. The loud cat screams continued. Eventually I got out of bed to go investigate. It was 8AM. I went to my front door and opened the screen door and stepped out a few feet and began to look left and right. I seen nothing. Then, I looked straight down, right infront of my feet, and there she was. Laying on a blanket we had left on our porch from a cook-out a few days previous. It was so cold outside that even the blanket had frost on it.
I bent down quickly and picked her up in my hands. She was so tiny. Her eyes still shut. She felt like an ice cube. I ran back inside the house, took her to my bedroom and rolled her up in my heating pad that was already turned on, and warm. Next, I went to the kitchen looking for some food to give her. The only thing I had was some chipped turkey breast. I broke the turkey into tiny tiny pieces and put them in a bowl. In another bowl I put some water. I returned to my bed room and got her out of the heating pad. Now she was a little bit warmer. I tried to see if she could stand on her own. Everytime I sat her up she would just fall sideways and start to shiver. I placed her back into the heating pad, and force-fed her some water so she would get some fluids into her body. A little later I showed her the turkey, and she gobbled it up.
I still remember the first time we ever gave her cat toys to play with. She was even afraid of those. She had started out her life so hard and close to death. That made her into the little kitten that she was. She would forget that she had to keep herself guarded and start to play a little bit, hitting the cat toys with her front paw. Then she would realize what she was doing and would go run and hide. When she was a little kitten she did have a spot of orange and spot of black ontop of her head. They have went away now.
Due to her rough start on life, Dumplin is a very small boned kitty cat. She's afraid of everything and everyone....Unless she knows you. She's always very aware of her surroundings, and it doesn't take much to make her go run and hide from anything. I would call her the typical scaredy cat. We call her "rolly polly" because she's chubby now. Plus we also call her our Marshmallow because she's so round! lol
