I had an Ileostomy or Ostomy for 6 months. People get ileostomies for alot of different reasons. I had my ileostomy because of a complication in my bowel resection due to Crohns disease. My bowel needed time to heal so that I would not run into another complication. I had my ileostomy reversed on June 12, 2001 because my bowel had healed enough to be re-connected again.
There are alot of different types of Ileostomies and Colostomies
Sometimes treatment for Colitis or Crohns disease.(what I have) involves removing all or part of the intestines. When the intestines are removed, the body needs a new way for stool to leave the body, so the surgeon creates an opening in the abdomen for stool to pass through. The surgery to create the new opening is called ostomy. The opening is called a stoma.
