SYNASTRY

By By Jeanne Thomas

MUEN: Wow! Synastry is tight! How long has the band been playing together?

SYNASTRY: We have been together since 2005 after the split of a former band that had me (Jimmy, vocals) drummer Kegham, and bassist Garen that were in need of a new direction.

MUEN: You have quite a distinct sound, and it's hard to compare with other Death Metal. Who are your influences?

SYNASTRY: Basically everything and anything can influence us. Musically we draw influences from bands like Fear Factory, Arch Enemy, Mnemic, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad...the list goes on. but the main influence I believe is our life in general.

MUEN: What exactly is the meaning of Synastry?

SYNASTRY: Synastry is an astrological term used to define how a relationship between two people might play out.

MUEN: How was your experience working with Kevin Jardine at Uplift Productions?

SYNASTRY: Working with Kevin Jardine was an absolute blast and a great learning experience. Kevin pushed us all to get the best out of us for our debut disc, and knowing how much we have improved since working with him, we're confident that "BLIND EYES BLEED" will be a crowd pleasing album.

MUEN: You have already gotten some radio play. Do you remember the first time you heard a Synastry song on the radio, and is it hard finding radio that will play your music?

SYNASTRY: Actually the first time a Synastry song was on the radio was in January 2007, and it was the demo version of "Pallets Of My New World." I was online, and a friend messages me saying we were on the radio... sure as hell.. I checked, and there we were!

MUEN: How do think your fans perceive you and what was your most memorable fan experience?

SYNASTRY: I think the fans realize that we are just a bunch of hardworking guys out to make a name and stake our claim - like when we do shows seven hours from home just to be able to come to their city and play for them. We have a lot of memorable fan experiences... one of which happend this weekend when one lady was chasing me around a venue we were playing in and was stroking my hair.. haha.

MUEN: Watching Synastry take control of the stage at Club Saphir last year, I enjoyed the pure metal "what you see is what you get" show. What kind of show do you try to bring to the audience?

SYNASTRY: We try to bring the best, most high energy performance we can to our live shows. We strive for tightness live and are glad that the crowds realise that and give back all the energy we send to them.

MUEN: What do you want people to know about Synastry? What makes you different than most other metal bands?

SYNASTRY: Basically we want people to know that SYNASTRY is more than about just low end growls and thick guitars. We are a hard working band that have always taken initiative with our career and hope that with the continued support of our fans, that we can be able to be in this band to entertain and inspire for many years to come.

MUEN: All the work you do for various charities and fund raisers is very commendable. Do you have any charity shows comming up?

SYNASTRY: Not at the moment, but if we would be approached by a fundraiser, we would definately do it.

MUEN: Are you planning on ever touring outside of Canada anytime soon?

SYNASTRY: Well, for the coming months, we are going to be going across Canada, coast to coast several times. And then we will take it from there.

MUEN: You were lucky enough to have worked with Arch Enemy founding vocalist Johan Liiva as well as The Agonist's frontwoman, Alissa White-Gluz. What were those experiences like for the band?

SYNASTRY: Working with both Alissa amd Johan was a mind blowing experience. Being friends with Alissa for several years and finally getting to work in the studio with her was a very cool experience. And having a living legend like Johan guest on one of our songs was like a dream come true for me. To be able to get some pointers from him and to hear what it sounds like to have Johan on a SYNASTRY song is a huge honor!

MUEN: "Pallets Of My New World" is such a beautiful song. What's the story behind it, and who usually writes your music and Lyrics?

SYNASTRY: Thank you. I (Jimmy) write all the lyrics. I also wrote most of the music in 'Pallets' as well. The story about Pallets is basiaclly about letting go of what once was - and embracing all that can be.

MUEN: Is there anywhere other than your shows that your CD and merchandise is available?

SYNASTRY: Not yet, but soon enough there will be an online store.

MUEN: You tour all the time. What do you do in your time off?

SYNASTRY: We work our regular boring jobs.. haha. But mostly we write as much as we can. New ideas need to be nurtured, so we pour as much energy into that as we can.

MUEN: The artwork for the cd and your merchandise is very futuristic. Who is the artist?

SYNASTRY: Mikio from Silent Q Design. He is an awesome craftsman.

MUEN: What are Synastry's goals in 2008 - what can we look forwards to?

SYNASTRY: We are going to be relasing the album in stores and online, and we will be touring our asses off more than usual. Besides that, there's a few sursprises in store torwards the end of 08, so stay tuned!
