MUEN: SO TONIGHT YOU HAVE A GIG AT THE "HOLLYWOOD STUDIO BAR & GRILL" IN LOS ANGELS... HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU LAST PERFORMED LIVE? AND WHO BOOKED YOU FOR THE SHOW? IS ANYONE ELSE SHARING THE BILL?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: Well I've been performing at the Bar and grill every couple of weeks....I was actually found by a myspace scout and was asked to perform there, it's a real casual and comfortable atmosphere with live comedians starting off the show followed by just a few artists. I don't have to pay to perform there I just get as many people as possible to come and support me at a charge of $10 and that is my contribution.
MUEN: GOOD, L.A. IS SO KNOWN FOR "PAY TO PLAY" IT SEEMS.. IT'S GOOD YOU FOUND A VENUE THAT TREATS YOU FARE... HOW MANY SONGS ARE YOU GOING TO SING TONIGHT? AND DOES ANYONE ACCOMPANY YOU MUSICALLY?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: 3 songs and I'm accompanied by performance tracks with a few background vocals.
MUEN: YOU STARTED SINGING AT A VERY YOUNG AGE.. WHO IS THE ONE THAT SUPPORTED YOU THE MOST DURING THOSE EARLY YEARS, AND HOW DID THE RECORDING WITH KENNY LOGGINS - FOR A "SESAME STREET" SONG, COME ABOUT AT AGE 10?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: My parents have always been the ones that have supported me the most througho out my music career, they've been there for me and if it weren't for them supporting me and giving me the strength to never give up when times got rough in music, I'm not sure if I would have been able to continue with such a positive outlook. The sesame street song came about at the age of 10 because individuals were always shocked at the fact that I had such a powerful voice at such a young age. I guess you could say that that experience just kind of came my way and I was blessed and able to sing a song with Kenny Loggins for a special Sesame Street episode.
MUEN: WHO ARE THE KEY PEOPLE THAT WORK WITH YOU CURRENTLY? DO YOU WRITE YOUR OWN LYRICS? OR DO YOU COLLABORATE SOMETIMES WITH OTHER SONGWRITERS?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: The people that I'm currently working with is Trilogy Productions. Together I've cowritten about 6 songs with them and can only hope to move forward in my career. I plan on collaborating with whomever I can on my musical journey and networking my way to the top. At this point I won't let anything stop me.
MUEN: EDDIE GALAN AND ANDREW LANE ARE "8 TIME PLATINUM, 4 TIME BILLBOARD #1 SONGWRITER/PRODUCERS!" LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE A PRETTY GOOD START ON YOUR CAREER ANYWAY...! HOW DID YOU MEET UP WITH THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: Actually I met them through myspace....crazy huh? I was working with other producers at the time and I happened to come across a page that really interested me, they had a worked with a ton of people that I greatly admired and so I decided to message them and I guess you can say that the rest is history :)
MUEN: BEFORE THAT YOU ATTENDED A PERFORMING ARTS BOARDING SCHOOL... WAS THAT IN YOUR HOMETOWN AREA? AND AFTER ATTENDING THE BOSTON CONSERVATORY, YOU THEN MOVED TO LOS ANGELES.. WHAT YEAR WAS THIS, AND HOW ARE YOU LIKING L.A.?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: The boarding school that I attended was not in my hometown, I'm actually from the malibu area and the school was in Idyllwild which is up the mountain from Palm Springs. After attending boarding school I then attending the Boston Conservatory which was an amazing experience, the weather was a huge step from LA, but I enjoyed the change in pace and beautiful scenery. Now I resign back in LA because I realized that my true calling is to be a recording artist and now I'm just plugging away at my dream.
MUEN: BESIDES SINGING, DO YOU PLAY ANY OTHER INSTRUMENTS?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: I play a little piano and guitar and when I say a little I mean a tad! My parents pushed me as a child to play instruments but as a child you kind of like to go against your parents wishes at times and so I rebelled and never wanted to practice, so now I'm paying a small price :)
MUEN: WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU ARE NOT DOING MUSIC? DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER INTERESTS?
STEFANIE MICHAELA: I love to work out and play with my puppy. My favorite alone time is going to the gym and just pumping iron by myself, and going on walks and cuddling with my little shipoo puppy Harley.Interview by G. Cataline MUEN Magazine |
