SIMONE FIORLETTA
By AngelDevil
AngelDevil: Hi Simone, how are you? Are you glad about your new record My Secret Diary?
Simone: Hi, Im doing good, thanks.
Glad about it?... yes. But not at 100% Not cause i didnt do a good job but i often feel like i need to do always better, time after time. If I was convinced about I did a perfect album Im sure my next works would sound too close to each other, like almost the same songs in a record.
AngelDevil:How did the album come out (recording, difficulty, choosing musicians)?
Simone: As my all solo projects, my music comes out from by feelings, emotions, by my own way to see and live my life. My Secret Diary comes out in less than a year, you know just a year after Parallel Words was done I was already in Germany in studio recording drums for MSD with Tomy Liotta. Once recordings started it took 10 months bifore the official publication.
After parallel Words publication (September 2005) I had a chance to make De Paoli listening to my music. I really appreciated it so I asked him if he was willing to work with me on my new album, he did agree with no hesitation. Just that time De Paoli was on tour with Tony Liottas project, which sees Pasko at bass too, so I knew the rest of band members. Then we went close friends and decided to play together, I involved them to work on this record Liotta did the same thing as getting me on his project. I can say that a sort of squad was born at that time, not just a band, you know?
AngelDevil: Yeah, I understand what you mean about the feeling you got to each others.
While I was listening to your CD I have to say that I fell in love for Welcome, Anita!, what a awesome song, while You Are My Past, Present, Future sounds so relaxing, one of those melodies that make you peaceful even after a hard working day. Which is the song that you mostly loved or which is the one that gave you much inspiration in that project?
Simone: I use to love all my songs, but for Welcome, Anita! is different, thinking about which inspiration I got in writing that song. Whos Anita? Anita is my dearest cousins daughter which was born just when I was recording this album. Anitas father Luca asked me to make a sort of baptism to her so I wrote a song for say welcome to this world to her, to say thanks to my cousin too who gave me that honor.
Same thing about "Only Three Minutes To Dream", which I wrote it for my girlfriend. Only three minutes to dream is a way to describe a shot but intense moment.
AngelDevil: Which are the songs you most enjoy on the stage? Which ones are the most exiting tunes to play or write or just your favorite ones?
Simone: I love to play mostly with Moonlight Comedy for sure, my power-prog. Band which I made a couple of albums with and they went on a worldwide distribution (The Life Inside - 2004 and Dorothy - 2007). Live we sound great and were able to make people feel our energy. We just played with Destruction, Primal Fear, DGM and many more on the first days of September at the Lagoa Burning Live in Portugal. When we just got out of the stage a lot of reporters and people came close to us saying how glad they were about our performance. For the rest of things theres no distinction, it has just to be music!
AngelDevil: How about your guitars sound?
Simone: Mirror of my soul, my Voice!!! I use to show my metal side playing with Moonlight Comedy so my sound gets different sounds than my close and solo works.
AngelDevil: What will your new project add to your own music road?
Simone: A step further for sure and a mosaics plug of my own music career if I can say something, it will make me famous more than now.
AngelDevil: When you suddenly get an idea where and how do you get it memorized in your mind? Do you use a little recorder, write something on a paper or you got good memory?
Simone: I got a good memory and of course that helps me a lot. Then Im often by my computer working with my recording softwares and sequences so Im always ready to record or write parts for my solo projects or Moonlight Comedy songs. If Im far from home and suddenly I get a good inspiration I start to sing it just to get it in my mind as much as I can, until Ill get my guitar to make it real and record it.
AngelDevil: Which kind of movie soundtracks would you like to play if someone asks you to do that?
Simone: I dont know why but for some reason I would love to play American classic movie soundtracks for family and kids.
AngelDevil: What do you think about the Italian music industry slump? Its coming a common thing now, do you think something is changing? And what about cds prices and concerts?
Simone: If it needs to talk about music business I guess we can say that this situation is going bad out of Italy too. Maybe metal and rock music are not selling so much here in this nation than other places, where people cares so much more about buying compilations. One of the most bad things that happen here in italy is that people uses to give more worth to foreign bands and artists than the ones we got here, which are very good. I follow so much Italian bands, from Labyrinth to Vision Divine, from DGM to Eldritch and many more, and I never get disappointed by their ideas or sounds.
AngelDevil: What do you think about Internet?
Simone: Internet brought big things and it made big discomforts at the same time.
Without any doubt we are able to see, get and listen so many things faster with internet, I guess that internet is so good for communication all around the world. But we cant stop illegal download and all false news that we get so many days since they start.
Another bad thing is that internet takes you to an unreal world where you get dependence and where theres a parallel reality which is not tangible.
AngelDevil: Many Italian artists often deicide to go foreign states to look for a most better situation about music, what do you think about it?
Simone: I think thats a good choice but its not that easy to do mostly if you have some bond in italy besides music, which is my case for example. I just got one of my students able to go to a music school in Dublin, he did a great job with his test for that school so he just went there.
AngelDevil: Can you tell me something about your feeling with your guitar, what does playing it mean to you, which emotions do you get?
Simone: Play to Live, ok? i started to play guitar after a surgery I had when I was 12. Guitar became my best friend and it was close to me on every hard times of my life. It may sound as a stupid thing but I used to give a name to my guitars for a while when I was younger. I have a funny story for you: I remember when I got my first guitar, it was November 22nd 1994, then I discovered that November 22nd is the anniversary of S. Cecilia, musicians patron saint!
AngelDevil: Which are your favorite artists, even not guitar players, that have gave you most influences?
Simone: I guess all music just gave me influences in my life, since I started to listen to it.
AngelDevil: I know that you just started to work on a new record and Milan Polak is going to play in it, right? Wanna tell me something about it?
Simone: Yeah its true and thank you for asking about it. My idea is to record a new vocals album with Milan Polak as singer and guitar player, Labyrinths Andrea De Paoli on keyboards, Moonlights Comedys Armando Pizzuti and Domenico Citriniti at bass, Tony Liotta, Marco Aiello and Moonlight Comedys Andrea Scala at drums. That record is gonna sound rock-fusion to go through a bigger target of people it will be a great and exiting experience, thinking about quality and notoriety of the musicians that will play on it.
AngelDevil: I think it will be just an awesome work! You chosen such great musicians. I look forward to hear it.
Hows professional life of a guitar player who lives by own music?
Simone: Its hard but awesome. Besides recording the album I teach electric guitar too in a music school which Im involved with, and i work in some recording studios as session man for prjects that goes from rock to pop music.im getting ready with my own home studio too to mix new bands projects that want to go through the music world. More that Im busy more I get satisfaction in that and Im glad of what Im doing day by day.
AngelDevil: Whats your biggest challenge for your future?
Simone: I dont wanna ever stop myself and I wanna get my biggest goals to bring my name over the top
AngelDevil: What did this music world teach to you?
Simone: I try to make me guide by positive things of life which is not so easy cause this world has got so many troubles, this world is full of people who gives their back to you and who follow you just for interests!!! At the same time its fortunately full of persons who can help you and make you to feel good with all the experience they give to you. Ive learned how to recognize good and bad people and situations along these years.
Differently from other musicians I use to help who asks me a hand to go through the music business, or just to get famous.
