MY EVOLUTION

Interview by Shauna O'Donnell

Burgos: Vocals
M~Lo: Guitar

MY EVOLUTION IS A HIGH ENERGY BAND OUT OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. THEY ARE A TWO TIME WINNER OF THE ALL ACCESS MAGAZINE MUSIC AWARDS FOR "BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE" AND "ALBUM OF THE YEAR". RECENTLY, I HAD THE PLEASURE AND PRIVILEDGE TO ATTEND ONE OF THEIR SHOWS. THEY GAVE AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE. MUEN: LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR CD "ALL EYES ON ME". I HAVE THE CD AND I LOVE IT. TELL US ABOUT IT. IS THIS YOUR DEBUT CD?

Burgos: This is our second disc but the first truly great one. We finally found our sound and are very proud of the tracks on it.
M~Lo: i prefer to think of it as our 1st cd and i love it dearly!

MUEN: WHO DOES THE WRITING?

Burgos: We all share writing credit and royalties.
M~Lo: Micah plays the drums! Haha he's our recording mastermind aswell to give credit where credit is due.

MUEN: WHERE IS THE CD AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?

Burgos: Dozens of places online, iTunes, etc. and at all shows.
M~Lo: All those places and in your car stereo and on your ipod.

MUEN: I NOTICED YOU USE THE INITIALS OF MY EVOLUTION "ME" ALOT. SO.. I WAS CURIOUS, WHEN YOU SAY "ALL EYES ON ME" ARE YOU REALLY SAYING ALL EYES ON MY EVOLUTION?

M~Lo: Yeah we are saying that. That was the thought process when we came up with the title of the cd....All Eyes On my Evolution.
Burgos: We were really just saying "damn, TuPac was incredible and we want to be like him".

MUEN: YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED RECORDING NEW SONGS AND WILL BE POSTING A NEW SONG IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. CAN WE EXPECT A NEW CD OR EP SOON?

Burgos: I'd say yes, but that would put undue pressure on Micah to record it. But "soon" is relative so yes..soon we'll deliver a new CD.
M~Lo: probably in march but we'll be posting our recent cover/remake of "Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode here very soon on myspace and our website so that should hold peeps over for a bit!!!

MUEN: RECENTLY YOU'VE BEEN PLAYING SOME PRETTY COOL SHOWS WITH BANDS LIKE GODSMACK, WITHIN TEMPTATION, AND IN THE PAST WITH IRON MAIDEN AND ANTHRAX TO NAME A FEW. WHO ELSE HAVE YOU PLAYED WITH? HOW MUCH TOURING HAVE YOU DONE AND WHERE HAVE YOU TOURED?

Burgos: Oh, Rob Zombie, Muse, The Killers and T.I., Too $hort.
M~Lo: We also performed at a big festival in san diego called San Diego street scene.....kick ass show!!! We haven't done any touring yet. We won't do that until the right oppurtunity presents itself. We have no desire to get in a van and play at bars etc.

MUEN: ARE THERE ANY FUN TOUR STORIES YOU WANNA SHARE?

Burgos: Once, Micah fell asleep so we put shaving cream on his balls and stuck a carrot in his ass. Haha just kidding, any Dave Chappelle fans out there?
M~Lo: No those are private!!!

MUEN: IT MUST BE GREAT WORKING WITH PLAYBOY T.V. YOU GUYS WROTE THE THEME SONGS FOR TWO OF THE PBTV SHOWS CALLED AMERICAN SEX STAR AND NIGHT CALLS. HOW DID THIS ALL COME ABOUT? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE PLAYBOY MANSION?

Burgos: They called us to write for Night Calls after the success of Jenna's American Sex Star, which we also wrote, and because we kill. We were on the show about five times as the guest performers and the mansion is so passé these days..we prefer to take our playboy girls to Starbucks.
M~Lo: But all fun things must come to an end as the Playboy situation ran it's course. We had alot of fun and made alot of $$$$ but Playboy tv changed it's format and fired everyone that we worked with. The songs we did for the shows will live forever though!!! Haven't been to the mansion just yet....just yet.

MUEN: WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST GRATIFYING MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER?

Burgos: So far, it's been the ability to play for larger and larger crowds and earn their respect for our brand of rock. People are watching M.E. more and more.
M~Lo: Pertaining to the question, i don't look at things that way. I just keep moving forward until i feel like i don't have passion anymore. I doubt that day will ever come so i look forward and never look back!!! It's all been gratifying, as cliche as that may sound it's absolutely true.

MUEN: TELL US ABOUT THE SHOW YOU WERE ON CALLED "JAMMIN"...

Burgos: It's a music show for a Latino TV station that broadcasts in English. Which is perfect for a half-breed like me because now I understand what they're saying. It was fun. A great experience to add to our credentials and we learned a bit from it, I'm sure..not Spanish but something.
M~Lo: It was fun. The production company named "Wildcard productions" were an absolute pleasure to work with. It was a great experience and i stand by everything i said from start to finish in that program!

MUEN: YOU HAVE A VIDEO OUT FOR YOUR SONG "YOU'RE ALL MINE" DIRECTED BY LADY RANSOM. TELL US ABOUT THE MAKING OF THE VIDEO AND WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO WORK WITH LADY RANSOM. IS IT YOUR ONLY MUSIC VIDEO? WHERE CAN PEOPLE SEE IT?

Burgos: This was fun. We really got to contribute a lot and it was a blast shooting it. Lady Ransom are a great team full of great ideas and energy. You can see the video on our web sites and of course, YouTube.com.
M~Lo: i love one of the directors...her name is Morgie!!!

MUEN: THERE ARE ALSO TWO LIVE WEB-CASTS ON FLASHROCK.COM. I'LL HAVE TO CHECK THEM OUT. ARE THEY INTERVIEWS OR LIVE FOOTAGE OF SHOWS YOU'VE DONE?

Burgos: Live footage of our performance at the Flashrock studios. They have interviews as well so you can see us answer questions in flesh and bone. Mostly bone.
M~Lo: The Flashrock peeps are very cool and very sweet!

MUEN: WHAT'S YOUR IMPRESSION OF THE L.A. MUSIC SCENE? HOW MUCH OR OFTEN DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN IT?

Burgos: I think it's pretty flat. There is no "sensation" like there has been in prior years. Everyone is sort of muddling along and not trying to push any buttons or the envelope. We're trying to change that. Bands are content to pay to play and we want to break that model down. It's great for the club owners and promoters but not for the bands. It basically becomes an American Idol type of environment where a band with the most friends willing to come out to a show wins..not the band with the most FANS. Friends are important and sometimes for life but Fans are what makes a band successful. Fans drive for miles and miles to see you play for an hour and get a chance to hang out with you afterward. Fans have even more power than you'd imagine. They can make or break you. Eugene from KISS always knew who was the most important part of their machine.
M~Lo: There are alot of bands playing alot of music and alot of shows happening. Also alot of people saying random shit aswell. People that aren't even in bands talk all day and night as if they were in one. Our participation in the scene is this: when it's our turn to ROCK we make damn sure that we bring it at a HIGH level!!! We go out and promote alot too because we want everyone to know what we're about whether we're doing a show or not.

MUEN: IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?

Burgos: 2+2=5. Support local music, become a fan of the music you listen to and support the artist with all of your heart and soul.
M~Lo: Yeah i'd like to add more $$$$ to my bank account and i'd like to subtract the BS from people's mouths that travel to my ears.......sounds funny but it's true!!!

MUEN: Thanks for the interview!

Burgos: Gracias!
M~Lo: Thanks alot we appreciate the oppurtunity!!!
