INTERVIEW with INNER LOGICS (Italy)
By AngelDevil

AngelDevil: HI Dany, welcome to MUEN Magazine. Let's introduce you guys: when and how did Innerlogics start?
Dany: Hi Angel Devil and MUEN Magazine! We are born at the end of 2005, even if Innerlogics is a name created in 2002, connected with a totally different line-up and another kind of sound. I'm the only survivor of that first period and I have to say that there wasn't so much in common with the previous band. We started like a group of friends, you know, when you are a sixteen yr. old guy and you want to follow your idols like Green Day, Blink 182, Offspring and many others. Then our plans started slowly to become more serious, someone left the band and the magical universe of internet helped us to replace lost members. For example Dmax, our drummer, replied to our announcement put on the net.
AngelDevil: I've read about your presence on the Heineken Jammin Festival contest, how was it?
Dany: I must state beforehand that this experience was born like a great, funny game and at first we didn't want to join the contest 'cause the really high number of bands enrolled. Anyway, these are the facts, it seems unbelievable but we have been placed between 34 finalists; we went to Milan to play at Jungle Sounds Studios, 'cause the experts who would have selected the 20 definitive bands for the Festival wanted of course, to listen to our music "live." Unfortunately we haven't exceeded the selection through the audition and therefore they placed us on the Heineken Jammin Festival website for an on-line public voting in order to choose the 21st band that would have performed on the stage. We have to thank a lot of our fans who supported our band through ten long days of voting, giving us the strength and the hope 'till the last day to reach our goal! We would have to play on the Second Stage on the 17th of June, but unfortunately on the 15th of June a now famous storm burst out on the San Giuliano Park in Mestre and our exhibition, like that one of many other bands, was cancelled. Anyway, the memory of an eclectic, amazing and unrepeatable experience remains.
AngelDevil: Tell me something about your new EP called "Going Nowhere," is it ready? What features did it get?
Dany: We recorded our EP, "Going nowhere," between February and March 2007. We had some problems connected with printing the copies but I think that the EP will be ready to be sold at our gigs from September. Right now you can listen some songs on myspace. For sure this EP encloses our best songs till now, we worked hard on it and we're extremely proud of the results. Critics are giving us a good feedback but, above all, we are receiving positive opinions from people and we are happy about it. Inside the EP you can find five songs, three performed in English and two in Italian, these last ones are a little bit older songs recorded for all those fans who follow us from our first period, mainly our friends. We tried to show off our best way to make music; I can define this EP as a good example of melodic hardcore but also, why not a typical American pop-punk work. We tried our best to create a perfect combination between our musical influences and this is the result, with a fast and heavy rhythm mixed with traditional, good pop melodies. I hope that a lot of people connected with this kind of music will like it, but not only them, also people with different musical tastes!
AngelDevil: Do you like better to sing in Italian or English?
Dany: I've started singing in Italian, then we have decided to pass to English totally, in fact new stuff is written in English. I have to be true, you can find contrasts in both languages: in Italian you can create a direct message, seeing people who understand immediately what you are saying but English is amazingly perfect to sing a song, especially for our kind of music and for this reason we have chosen it. So, personally, I prefer English, at least at this moment.
AngelDevil: How would you describe InnerLogics' sound?
Dany: Our sound is simple but direct, we try to create a delightful melody useful to hit the target at first impact with the help of a catchy refrain.
AngelDevil: How do you write your songs?
Dany: Generally our songs are created thanks to two steps : at first I try to find chords, a basic structure and a sort of main melody, while after that we're all together involved into the arrangement, of course each one of us has his specific part.
AngelDevil: Which subjects do your lyrics have?
Dany: We try to speak about things connected with our world, it couldn't have so much sense to do otherwise. We are still in love with stuff like teen troubles, you know, like parties on the beach and first love, it's also our music genre pretty close to those arguments. However, these things take turns with deeper stories related to heavy problems like alcohol or drug abuse, a widespread trouble between young people.
AngelDevil: What is the song that most represents you?
Dany: Personally I say for sure "Forgive," the second song included in the EP. I wrote this song in a gloomy moment of my life, when I thought it was hard to find the good sides of things around me and all I wanted was a way to escape but I didn't know exactly which kind of escape and from what, perhaps just to find a little tranquility with myself. I think that it's a complete, melodic song, useful to describe my mood, with a sort of mellow melancholy. Ehy, of course we haven't written only sad songs, hehe!
I can't choose for the other guys, I think that everyone has his favourite song.
AngelDevil: What do you think about cd's and concert's prices?
Dany: I don't know how things are going in USA but in Italy prices are still too high and obviously people don't buy cd! If you can download music why do you have to buy it? Of course it's an illegal action but if prices will remains so high, I agree totally with it. Someone told us that the day in which we could find our albums on peer to peer programs like emule, it would mean that we're become famous. I think that it's an emblematic sentence. Gigs are much more accessible, at least those that I attend. You can be totally involved during a live performance, sometimes it's not only a simple gig but a great show, you pay very willingly if you wanna see you favorite band on stage and price of ticket is payed back by your emotions. Remember, a real band is able to do the best on stage, not only with an album!
AngelDevil: Is internet and myspace the best way to get exposure for you?
Dany: I consider it a powerful way to promote yourself, especially if you are an emerging artist. Your music could reach an extensive number of people spread around the world and you can find the possibility to play gigs far from your city. Of course, every band could use this way, so theres a lot of competition, but these are the rules of the game.
AngelDevil: What's your plans? Any live shows scheduled?
Dany: Actually we're on holiday, so we haven't scheduled live performances. We need a rest 'cause in the last three months, when we finished the EP, we played on stage about twenty live shows.. You know, generally we had to accustom ourselves to do that amount of shows in a year, so we're getting tired. However, we'll start to play again in September and in October we'll be ready to promote our cd through Italy. We'll do it 'till March/April 2008 and then we'll enter into the studio to record our first album. Right now we have some important contacts with a label ready to promote and distribute our album across Italy. The label's name is Sin Records, based in Mondov, while Audioglobe will attend to distribution.
AngelDevil: We're done with this interview... let's close it with a message... what would you wanna say for those who will read this?
Dany: At first I wanna say "thank you" to all those who will read this interview, to MUEN Magazine which contacted us and to you who interviewed me. I hope that all this could be only the beginning of something really precious, 'cause so many beautiful things happened to us in last six months, and It's impossible to speak extensively about it. You must believe always in your passion, like music for us, and you'll reach every goal you have planned, finding satisfaction if you are humble and are ready to take - with your best mood - everything that's happened to you! Greetings and I beg you, visit our myspace at www.myspace.com/innerlogics!
