Jon Roberts - Bass Guitar
Danny Nobrega - Drums

MUEN: HOW LONG HAS ILL OF DAY EXISTED WITH THE CURRENT LINE-UP, AND WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE LAST CD?

DENISE: Jon and Dan have been playing together for 4 years. I joined the band in April 2006, and Chris came aboard in August 2006. Ill of Day is a very new band, but we all have years of experience playing and performing in other bands. Our only album to date is simply self-titled "ILL OF DAY."

MUEN: ARE YOU CONTINUALLY WRITING NEW SONGS? WHO WRITES THE LYRICS? AND DO YOU PERFORM LIVE VERY OFTEN?

DENISE: We try to write new material every time we get together. We record every session and have days worth of material in the vault. Our time together has been very fruitful; we have been so inspired lately and cannot wait to piece together our next album! I write all the lyrics, and I think we all prefer it that way. We each have the freedom to speak using our chosen instrument. Our show schedule has been very up and down since we started playing live, there are some weeks we play 3 shows and other weeks we play only one, or none. At this time our interest is in writing new material, discovering what energy lies dormant.to awaken it in a song.

MUEN: MUEN: WHERE IS THE DEBUT E.P. AVAILABLE? HOW MANY SONGS DOES IT HAVE, AND IS THERE A FULL LENGTH EXPECTED ANYTIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

DENISE: Our 6 track debut will be available via our myspace and our official website (coming soon), There are a few other sources we are considering but no concrete decisions have been made. We will keep everyone posted. We are currently writing new material for a full length. Can't wait!

MUEN: MUEN: YOU ARE GETTING A REALLY GOOD SOUND! VOCAL, GUITAR, BASS AND DRUMS! WHERE DID YOU RECORD THE SONGS THAT ARE NOW AT YOUR MYSPACE? AND ARE YOU WORKING WITH ANYONE OUTSIDE OF THE BAND?

DENISE: Thank you! We recorded at Roxford sound, by engineer Tim Oxford out of New Market, Ontario. He is such a great easygoing guy, and it was a pleasure the entire time we were there.

MUEN: HAS CHRIS BENNETT JUST RECENTLY SWITCHED TO A PAUL REED SMITH, AND OR DOES HE SWITCH GUITARS OFTEN FOR CERTAIN SONGS?

DENISE: Chris has used Charvel guitars in the past and bought the PRS just a couple of years ago. He pretty much plays the Paul Reed Smith all the time unless we change tuning. And apparently we LOVE drop D. hehehe

MUEN: SO HOW'S LIFE IN TORONTO? AND IN YOUR OWN WORDS, WHAT DO YOU FEEL SEPARATES YOU FROM MOST OF THE OTHER UNSIGNED BANDS IN YOUR AREA?

DENISE: Well, I suppose life in Toronto is a lot like life in any major city. One thing I am proud of is Toronto's cultural diversity. Everywhere you turn is a new flavor, and some kind of traditional folklore. It's quite charming. What separates us from other bands? Every time we get out there, we pour everything into our songs. We sweat, we cry, we bleed music with passion.

MUEN: WHAT'S THE MAIN MESSAGE YOU TRY TO GET ACROSS IN YOUR MUSIC? WHAT SORT OF THINGS INSPIRE YOU MOST TO WRITE A SONG, DENISE? AND DO YOU WRITE THE LYRICS BEFORE IT GOES TO MUSIC? OR DO YOU SOMETIMES COME UP WITH LYRICS RIGHT THERE WHEN THE WHOLE BAND REHEARSES?

DENISE: I tend write a lot about overcoming the negatives, epiphanies, Truth revealed, how our souls can die, how new life inspires us, being weak, and being strong. I write about my own personal demons, and those of the world collectively. I find every song to be written differently based upon the mood I'm in and the notions that flow through. Sometimes Im angry at the world or content in the here and now, other times I'm thinking about that person with low self-esteem, or the fact that we as humans still have not learned to see one another as equals. I have never written the lyrics before the music. Particular sounds and tones set my mood, my frame of mind is established and the words flow through, it all seems to filter from an unknown source. The songs mostly write themselves, and I tend to discover what they are about after they are written. Every song on the album was written though free jamming. In fact that is the only way we write at all. (So far)
