INTERVIEW with GROUND MOWER (Sweden)

Interview by Jeanne ThomasMUEN: How did you come up with, and decide on the name Ground Mower?
GROUND MOWER: We had a lot of names that we thought were cool; like STONE, NECROTEENS, BASTARDS and names like that - but nothing really was the right one! We needed something that sounded simular to our music - something that paved its way! Not to fast but for sure! Then Jocke Hedestedt, bassplayer of Face Down, came up with GROUNDMOWER! And it fit perfect. He gave it a really good growl when he presented it to us - so we went with GROUNDMOWER from that growl. Thanx Jocke! lol
MUEN: You have a very "heavy"rocking sound with strong metal undertones. What would you classify your music as?
GROUND MOWER: I don't think too much about stuff like that. We have a lot of different influences - and if I should go with one classification it has to be ROCK-N-ROLL!! Rock-n-roll is what we are all about and the reason why we are doing this. Rock-n-roll is about being Loud, Dirty & Kick Ass! & Having a great time meanwhile.
MUEN: I can really hear your Pantera/Soundgarden influence in your song "Time", who else influences you?
GROUND MOWER: We all ended up in GROUNDMOWER from very different tastes in music. Tompa - bass - is into old punk and stuff like that, GG Allen and Irish folk... Magnus - Singer - is here for soul like Joe Cocker, Mr. Bang - drummer - likes just about everything from Pink to Slayer, And I, Jonta - guitar - like Motrhead and AC/DC. But of course Pantera has had a big influence on us all; The beat, The shredding and the high energy is awesome - makes you wanna rip down a whole town or something...
MUEN: Are you still looking for a label or are you enjoying the political free life of an unsigned band?
GROUND MOWER: At the moment we are looknig into a deal! And if every thing goes like we want it to - the album is going to be out mid. April.
MUEN: How did all the members of the band meet up to become Ground Mower?
GROUND MOWER: Well Me and Tompa have been rumbling together for ages. We played together in a band called Mosez back in the -90's. We have had a lot of fun since we met 18 years ago in fistfight between a hurd of youngsters. Mr.Bang and I went to the same class since we were 6 years old - he he what a class!! And when Me and Tompa were about to put up a band we met Mr. Bang by coincidence in Stockholm. We asked him if he wanted to have fun a few days a week... Also he told us that he had heard of a Kickass singer from Gvle - 2 hours by car from Stockholm - and said that is the man for us! Me and Tompa were a bit scared to have someone that we didn't know to join forces, but we met him and loved him and his voice!!
MUEN: "White Trash Ghetto Metal" dropped in July of "07". When will it be available to us and where can we get it?
GROUND MOWER: Well that all depends on whether we sign the deal on 15th of February or if we decide to do it ourselves. We will make that decision first week of Feb. And the title is going to be: GROUND MOWER.
MUEN: In your "Carved in Stone " video your audience is huge!!! What's the music scene like in Sweden?
GROUND MOWER: It's getting better!! Before - 15 years ago - there were only small tiny places and then it was the big arenas. But now there are many wonderful places from 100 to 1000. And that is very important to the music scene. "Carved In Stone" was shot in Gvle in their famous City festival. It was a great gig. And the audience was crazy and Loud!! Big Cheers to Gvle!!
MUEN: You have a great light show with some really high tech pyro going on there. Do you enjoy a "BIG" show?
GROUND MOWER: Yeah!! Mostly we play "on the house" only using our own backline. But every now and then we bring Our Thunderline. At Gvle City festival we had all of Carola Hggkvist - famous swedish popsinger - pyro-leftovers!! He he !! That was a blast! GREAT!! Kick ass!
GROUND MOWER: If The shows are big or small doesn't really matter. When it is Close it's rock-n-roll. And when it is a small place it's always close and when it's big you have to make it close.
MUEN: What event in your Ground Mower career has been the most memorable?
GROUND MOWER: There are many memorable moments like Gvle or When Swedish radio recorded a show - but I have to say when Tompa left a christmas greeting this year to Broadcast Asylum Radio!! I don't think he knows what he did!! He he!! This was the 12th of December and he couldn't speak and called them You Great Fuck ups!! Teaching them how we say "How di do" in Sweden. And then the following morning he was thinking: I have to call B A Radio and do that greeting - not knowing he already made that a couple of hours ago!! By the way; Thanx Jade & Doc Of B A Radio for that copy!!
MUEN: You have a fan base scattered throughout the world from Sweden to the United States. What do you attribute to this popularity?
GROUND MOWER: That was a hard one! I guess people like Kick ass rock-n-roll! We also have met a lot of wounderful people that have helped us; Like our Bro Felix - Texas Rebel Promotions - And our Street teams that really have helped us spread our Rock-n-roll!!! And our fans all across the world have also helped us tremendously!! It would be great if fans would sign our guestbook and say what they like about GROUNDMOWER. www.groundmower.se Thanx for the idea Jeanne!!
MUEN: What can we look forwards to from Ground Mower in "08"?
GROUND MOWER: Same thing but Louder; Dirtier and hopefully that the album will be out mid April!! Cheers everyone/JontaInterview by Jeanne Thomas |
