INTERVIEW with
ANADIES

By Stephanie Marie

ANADIES

"AnaDies added us in early summer, and we put them immediately into the top that same day, due to their undeniable songwriting abilities and overall quality of sound... the songs that they had at the time were not the final mixes, but still had that unmistakable professional structure and charismatic vocal of Christy. They definitely lacked photos and were actually just starting to build their myspace. Since then we've seen rapid leaps and bounds by this band, whether it be the live shows booked with well-known acts or just the overall attention they give to their music advancement. Someone's working, that's for sure!

MUEN: So what are the latest things you've been working on? Looks like you have a show coming up with "Mankind Is Obsolete" at the Iliff Park Saloon, just another of many shows where you've opened for some fairly big names in music such as American Head Charge and Godhead as well, can you tell us a little about the past few months? AnaDies really seems to be moving ahead at good speed!

ANADIES: Our focus has been on shopping our newest demo to labels and generating interest. Along with anything we can do to keep pushing forward,... writing new material and playing shows. We've been fortunate in being able to perform at a lot of good shows lately.

MUEN How close are you, do you feel, to possibly headlining a big show on your own?

ANADIES: We think of every show as a big show. We have headlined many large shows in the past, such as the 2005 Colorado Dark Arts Festival, etc.

MUEN: How was your experience playing at the 2005 Van's Warped Tour stop in Denver?

ANADIES: It was definitely an experience, we had a great time and hope to do it again sometime. It was different seeing the festival from a performers perspective rather than attending the festival as a fan.

MUEN: While reading your bio and coming across the part where it says “lush melodies and punishing aggression," I was thinking to myself, "that couldn't be more true!" I want to know how did you all come together to form “AnaDies" in the first place? ... there seems to be so much chemistry here between all of you in the band...

ANADIES: We've all been a part of the scene and have known each other for many years. There is a chemistry between us and we work well together. We have a diverse pool of influences but at the same time we are all open minded enough and listen to each others ideas.

MUEN: Since you first formed in 2003, how would you say your music has changed or progressed as time went on? Has there been significant changes in the music at all since the beginning? And what are some of your earlier songs that you still perform live today?

ANADIES: We've grown a lot as a band and our music is constantly evolving. We do play a lot of the material that was written in the early stages of the band, songs such as In The Fold, Crimson Tears, and Hollow.

MUEN: After listening to the songs you have uploaded on your page, I have to ask you, does Christy write most of the lyrics to these songs, or do all of you add bits and pieces of your own ideas as you go along in the lyric writing process? Also, does Talia come up with alot of the beginnings to songs being she's the pianist/keys?

ANADIES: Everyone in the band contributes in all aspects of the writing process, lyrically and musically. Talia brings a lot of ideas to the table, as does everyone else.

MUEN: Were you happy with what the Boston Herald wrote?

ANADIES: We were in the Boston Herald? hahaha..

MUEN: Yeah, right here BostonHerald.com What type of tours do you expect to do eventually? Do you have plans for possible European tours or anywhere else outside of the US?

ANADIES: We would love to eventually get the opportunity to tour in Europe / overseas as well as do a full on US tour. In the meantime we are working to build our regional presence and expand from there.

MUEN: What bands can you say have influenced your music the most?

ANADIES: Nightwish, NIN, Katatonia, Poe, Tori Amos, Opeth

MUEN: What do you think sets AnaDies apart from alot of other bands in your genre?

ANADIES: Come to a show and see for yourself, we like to leave that open for interpretation.

MUEN: Does it seem difficult to get shows booked sometimes because of being a female fronted band, or even because of the larger number of members in the band?

ANADIES: We haven't experienced any problems with booking because of either of those two issues. We always have plenty of show offers to keep us busy.

MUEN: You guys just recently opened up for Evans Blue, what was that like?

ANADIES: We have opened for them twice now and both of the shows went extremely well. It is always an honor to open for a national act and a great opportunity for us to get exposure.

MUEN: There’s actually a video from one of your live shows on YouTube, will you be making a music video anytime soon for any songs you have posted at myspace, or that are on the upcoming album?

ANADIES: We don't have anything planned at this time, but we are open to the idea.

MUEN: And so we know fans are able to go online and purchase your music on iTunes, but when will the CD actually be released? Anytime soon? And is there a title chosen for it yet?

ANADIES: We are currently seeking label support for our upcoming release "Catalyst".

MUEN: Where is the recording taken place, and who's doing the engineering and mixing on the songs?

ANADIES: We are recording with Dave Otero at Flatline Audio based out of Denver, CO. Dave is known for his work with bands such as Cephalic Carnage, Martriden, and many others.

MUEN: On that note, I'd have to say good luck with the final release, and hopefully you guys will stop in my town and I'll be able to make it out to one of your shows. Keep it Metal!
