Only if you've never been faced with the reality of a life changing event.
I have empathy for all those who contracted C from blood transfusions, innoculations and other, seemingly, innocuous transmissions of blood. They're the ones who can really ask "why me?"
I'm in the "other" category. I've got a sneaking suspicion that I know exactly why I contracted C. During my junior & senior years of college in Heidelberg, Germany I was a heroin addict. And, yes, there were times when I shared needles with other junkies. I was hospitalized in the spring of '73 with multiple pneumonia, abcesses on the lung & endocarditis. I may have received blood at this point, I really can't remember. So whether I had it before I went in or got it from blood transfusion is really kind of a moot point....
So. "Why me?" Better yet, "why anyone?"
Without going spiritual or metaphysical on you, and believe me I can, let's just say that "life is wonderful and filled with unexplained & unjustified savagery." There is no rhyme or reason, life just happens. How we adjust and deal with it is the final measure of our character.
And how do I deal? Well, judging by this & the rest of my website, mostly with a perverse, black humor. Works so far.
Yes, the background for this page is INDEED the Hep C virus as seen through an electron microscope. Lovely, huh?
