Here are a couple of bows and their arrows that I photographed at the Museum of the American Indian
This first one is a Pueblo indian bow.  Sorry for not remembering which Pueblo.  Its a pretty bow with a reflex deflex design and was actually rather short.  It was also narrow and not backed.  That and the color makes me think that the wood is probably Osage Orange. 

Arrows are correspondingly short and the fletching on the arrows is quite high
The bow below is a Lakota bow.  The design is also reflex deflex and it is also narrow.  Also I think Osage Orange.


Its interesting to see what the ancestors used to bring home the bacon... erm... buffalo...
