| Why a Corvair? They drive well. They look good. Classic American Car Looks. They get great gas mileage. They're a milestone car (collector status). They are easy to work on. They are American Made. They're a very unique vehicle. Lots of clubs, parts, meets. They're very reliable. Air cooled, no water pump/radiator. Rear engine, rear drive. They're FUN! One big advantage to these cars compaired to other classic cars and muscle cars is they are still affordable for the average working folks. Have you see some of the prices these "other collectable cars" are getting at the auctions and Carlisle Shows? It's crazy!!! Too much money....Not enough sense! Chervrolet Corvair, one of the most unique and interesting cars ever made by the General. A car ahead of its time...... |

| What is a Corvair? The Chevrolet Corvair was made for 10 model years, 1960 thru 1969. It was one of the first efforts by the Big 3 American Car Manufactorers; (GM, Ford & Chrysler) to take on the import name-plates and one of the first to offer a complete line of vehicles (cars and trucks) and performance options on a single platform. The Corvair Family includes: 2 door sports coupes, 4 door sedans, 2 door convertible, station wagon, passenger van, panel van, and two pickup models, the Rampside and the Loadside The Corvair hit a previously undeveloped market niche head on: in 1963 sales of the coupe version alone hit 120,000 units. This small sporty coupe came years before (and may have been the inspiration for) the much heralded Ford Mustang. It would not be too much of a leap of faith to say that the Corvair was the inspiration for all modern U.S. sports coupes with snazzy styling, performance options and a sharp looking convertable. I finally got my own Corvair from a fellow at work, the orginal owner. It's a 1968 Burgandy Monza coupe, 110 HP, 3 speed with only 78k miles on it. Most of my other old cars had 150k of more on them when I accuired them. I'll post pictures as soon as I can. This one needs some work, but should make a good fun, economical, daily driver without too much trouble. |
