Question:
What do you think will be, or can be, the significance of the Trinity for this new millennium??

Answer:
These are indeed exciting times, as we approach the beginning of the third millennium. Under the direction of the pope, we come to this great marking of time and history with a renewed sense of our identity as a Trinitarian people.

The Church does not find herself now, after 2000 years, just coming to know God as One in three Persons. Our believe in the Trinity, foundational to our lives as Christians, goes with us into this new era. From the beginning, the revealed truth of the Holy Trinity has been at the very root of the Church's living faith, principally by means of baptism. It find its expression in the rule of baptismal faith, formulated in the preaching, catechesis, and prayer of the Church. Such formulations are found in the apostolic writings, such as Paul's salutation, "The grace if the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you" (2 Cor 13:13).

Perhaps the significance of the Trinity for us in the new millenium is its community of persons. All Christians are called to live in this kind of unity with others. While there is diversity among persons, there is unity overall. The love that binds the Holy Trinity together is the same love needed to hold individuals and communities together. May we enter upon a new age in which Christians will not be divided against each other; an age during which nations will discover the path of peace through love.
