Our
AGM was held in December and Chairman Mark Underwood spoke on
what has been another eventful year, with many excellent finds.
On a sadder note we lost a stalwart member of the club when
Vic Maddocks passed away earlier this year. He then thanked
the committee for the work they had done through the year and
hoped they would carry on for 2004.
Our treasurer Barbara Pike could not attend due to ill health
and has been forced to relinquish this post.
We have a closed membership of 50 but we are making a two tier
scheme this year to bring in people on our waiting list. Full
membership will cost £16 and social ( none detecting)
members will pay £8.
The social membership will entitle the member to attend meetings
,activities and other benefits with exception of club digs and
public liability insurance cover.
The meeting was also attended by our finds liaison officer Wendy
Scott and Richard Knox, Assistant Keeper of Archeology and Heritage
Services in Leicestershire. Our visitors were greatly interested
in the finds on display and photographed many of them. One item
in particular was a small gold pendant which was thought to
be Saxon and this will be reported to the Coroner as treasure.
Also among our guests were Jan and Linda Maddocks who presented
the Year Trophy to John Caluori for the most points awarded
on club digs. The Trophy, a rose bowl is engraved in memory
of their father Vic Maddocks.
