Heatherwoods His Name is Mudd

Mudders came to us from Sheila Wheatley at Heatherwoods Labradors.  This boy came to us with the attitude of a show dog.  He was goofy, and accident prone, but most of all he threw his whole heart into life.

Mudders was a chocolate dog, and looked a lot like his grandpa Eddie (Epoch's Edwards of Bonaventure).  He was the kind of dog who had to be active all the time, and worked him self up into such a constant state of intensity, that he just panted constantly.

Mudd loved the snow, and would tear around every snow storm, rolling and rubbing his whole body into the snow drifts.  He had a happy tail that constantly wagged, and he smiled all the time.

Mudd's favorite place in the world was the Tanner Dog Park.  This place is not the typical dog park, with a quarter acre chain linked with dogs running around a flat confined space.  Tanner park is huge, and looks more like a place to go hunting for upland game.  There is a river that runs through it, and tall brush hiding many a lost ball.  It's hard to be affectionate when you're always on the go, and Mudd would come back and check in before smelling something new to go investigate.

My favorite sound Mudd made was his hoover nose.  When he was frantically, and perhaps too optimistically searching for some lost morsel on the kitchen floor, he would snort and sniff.  I miss that sound.

The last weekend we had Mudd, we went for a hike by Strawberry Reservoir.  It was deep snow that was frosted over, but would occasionally break and I'd fall through to my knees.  Mudd, Polly, and Token were running around, occasionally disappearing in a hole, only to bound out again.  At the end of our hike, there was a tall steep hill that my kids and husband rolled down.  Mudders, never to be left out, rolled down too.

When we got home, I got one of my horrible migraines and went to bed.  Mudd was in the room, and hopped up on the bed.  He lay down, one foreleg on either side of me, and his head on my back.  It was so comforting, and I've carried that with me since he has been gone.  He is so missed, and I will never forget him.
