| 2004 Lakeview Jaycees Mud Volleyball Classic | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| To familiarize you with this "sport"...simply put, The ORIGINAL Mud Volleyball Classic is a double elimination, 5 on 5 volleyball tournament played in the mud. 6 people may be registered per team, and the team may consist of either, or both genders of ladies and gentlemen who are over 13yrs old (Yeah right!... Like we actually refer to a bunch of people in a mud bog as "ladies & gentlemen") For those teams that really suck, and lose their first two games, there is always the single elimination Toilet Bowl part of the tourney. This bracket of the match is to determine who is the best of the worst. Your team is therefore guaranteed at least three games, but as soon as you have lost your 2nd game after playing at least three, you will kindly be asked to exit the mud, and face the reality that on this day, you are a loser. This brings up our #1 rule of the tournament: NO WIMPS ALLOWED! If you are a wimp or a whiner, or simply cannot face the fact that there is a chance that someone is better than you, then please do us all a favor and donate your entry fee, but NOT show up.... there is no room for wimps at this event (spectators included). Those exhibiting characteristics of a typical WIMP will be readily picked up and given a Mud Baptism to cleanse them of their...."wimpiness"..(fair warning). If you are wondering if this is "normal" volleyball, YES, we DO use a real volleyball and net. We DO play games to 15 points (win by 2)....HOWEVER, we do NOT guarantee that the net is regulation height (good lord, we are measuring in a mud pit!) AND, the courts are NOT regulation dimensions. Probably the ONE distinct difference is that we play by "guerrilla/backyard" rules. Courts are provided with a scorekeeper who is also there to assist in making arbitrary rulings when a dispute occurs, however, we would hope that all participating can actually deal with things in a humane, compromising way.... If not, the scorekeeper rulings are final. If you cannot handle this, refer back to RULE #1 (NO WIMPS ALLOWED). Games are started promptly with a coin toss to determine which team wants to choose "side of net" or "serving team". The other team gets to make the remaining choice. Teams not showing up promptly may be deemed a forfeit of that game. Shoes are NOT required, but are highly recommended. SPIKES of any kind are NOT allowed during play. Believe it or not, some folks think they can get better "traction" this way. Because wimps are not allowed, it must also be stated that players are entering this tournament at their own risk of injury. Because this IS a physical event, risks of injury are possible, and if you cannot be held responsible for YOU, then don?t come here.... Just send in your entry fee as donations...thank you. This event will be played on public property, therefore smoking and consumption of alcohol are NOT encouraged/permitted. Food and pop will be available, as well as T-shirts for purchase (to commemorate this unforgettable day in the mud...And all I got was this lousy T-shirt) * Register your team by June 19th and each team member will receive a T-shirt Free.
