WHAT ABOUT THE BELLS AND WHISTLES?

Besides taking pictures, digicams may also come with features that you don't see (or maybe never will) on low-end cameras.  Some of these features are:

CONTINUOUS SHOOTING. Continuous shooting allows you to take several consecutive shots simply by keeping the shoot button pressed.

PANORAMA SHOTS. This allows you to take a series of photographs and "paste" them together using stitching software that comes with the camera.  Great feature if you always take landscape shots like fields, mountains, coastlines, wide buildings, etc.

MOVIE MODE. Home-made videos at an instant.  No need to get that bulky camcorder.

SELF-TIMER. It's frustrating if you want to take a group photo (perhaps your family or a group of your friends) and not having yourself included in the picture.  Using a camera with a self-timer is the way to go.  Now, you don't have to get in front of the mirror to take a picture of yourself!

MANUAL SETTING. Set the shutter speed and aperture just like an SLR.

MACRO SHOTS. Take close-up shots of small objects.

EXPOSURE AND WHITE BALANCE ADJUSTMENTS. Adjusting the exposure is useful if the picture comes out too dark or too light.  The same goes for white balance.  Using the proper setting, you can get rid of color casts without going through the image editing software.

IN-CAMERA PHOTO EFFECTS. Instead of shooting in color, you can set the camera to shoot in black-and-white or sepia tone, or put emphasis in the contrast and color saturation to get vivid color results.
