the following is a private message transcript (yahoo messenger) of what happened on december 03, 2004 between me and a chatter that goes by the name of cajuncougar.
but first, a primer. a few days before i requested some of the regulars to call me by my screen name (pasko or tasyo as the case may be) instead of my real name (anton). the reason? simple -- in order not to confuse non-regulars who come in the room asking for help. you see, whenever the regs call me by my real name, someone who don't know me personally would ask "who is anton?" or "i don't see that name in the room list." so, in order to avoid confusion, i started to ask them to call me by my screen name instead.
so, i also requested cajuncougar to call me by tasyo or pasko in the chat room for the same reason. but even though i already requested him, he still called me by my real name, so at that point i started calling him by his real name. this is when the "fun" started. he messaged me first in messenger...
steve_w (11:39:04 PM): hi anton
me (11:39:13 PM): hi steve
steve_w (11:35:38 PM): hey i asked you not to call me that
[1] what he just said sort of caught me by surprise. oh, by the way, don't ask me why there is a discrepancy with the time stamp. i just copied and pasted the text on my private message box "as is, where is."
me (11:39:43 PM): what
steve_w (11:36:07 PM): i asked you not to call me steve
me (11:40:13 PM): even in this PM box?
steve_w (11:36:45 PM): i did ask that you call me cougar before
me (11:41:05 PM): so even in the PM box then? even when there's only the 2 of use in this box that nobody else sees?
[2] take note that this is a private conversation in messenger, so that means nobody sees the convo in the chatroom. that being the case, then it's normal to use the real name in private messages, right? i don't see anything wrong with that one. ahh well, if he wants me to call him cougar, fine with me.
steve_w (11:37:44 PM): i would
like cougar better
me (11:42:02 PM): well you better start calling me by my screen name then. it's only proper.
steve_w (11:38:32 PM): anton is your screen name in here
me (11:42:39 PM): well steve is also your screen name in this box
[3] now, for those of you who may not know this, there is a feature in yahoo messenger where you can assign nicknames to ids in your buddy list. this is convenient if the id is quite long or if you want to put in their real name instead of their yahoo id. when cajuncougar was still a newbie in yahoo chat, he added my id and i added his. since my id was rather long, i told him what to do so that instead of my id showing on his buddy list, my name (anton) shows up instead. i also did the same to his id, changed it to his real name (hence, you see "steve_w" in the transcript instead of his yahoo id). incidentally, i also gave my own id a nickname months before i even met him (that's why you see "me" in the transcript instead of my yahoo id). now, i want to make it clear at this point that i explained to him back then this yahoo messenger feature.
steve_w (11:38:56 PM): no its not
me (11:42:56 PM): yes it is
me (11:43:00 PM): dont you argue with me
[4] i've been helping this person since he was a newbie, and based on my experience he tends to be what we call a "makulit" person (someone who is irritating because he or she does not get the point once but needs to be reminded again and again, so many times over). patience is a virtue, as they say, and i can only do so much. (well, i tried to be very patient with him in the past.) but anyway, i already knew where this is leading to, hence, i told him not to argue.
steve_w (11:39:13 PM): what
steve_w (11:39:17 PM): its not
steve_w (11:40:15 PM): i'm not the one argueing at all
steve_w (11:40:36 PM): i just asked you not to call me steve is all i did
me (11:45:06 PM): and i'm also asking you not to call me anton but instead call me by my screen name in chat. either tasyo or pasko
steve_w (11:41:50 PM): how come on my friends box when we chat in a pm box it don't say steve on his screen
me (11:46:07 PM): well because he is not using nicknames unlike you, you set it as a nickname
steve_w (11:42:12 PM): why
steve_w (11:42:46 PM): i did not set steve as a nic name
steve_w (11:43:10 PM): your not beeing very nice today
[5] now, wait a minute... he asked why on his other friend's box it doesn't say "steve?" well, as you can see, i already gave him an answer. didn't i explain that yahoo feature earlier? (see paragraph [3]) and now, he jumped from that to (sic) "your not beeing very nice today" <-- huh? why all the sudden that remark out of the blue? that instantly annoyed me.
[6] when he was a newbie, he kept saying that i'm a nice person but i told him straight off that i'm not nice all the time, depending on the situation, i get hot-tempered especially when people are "makulit." (forgot what "makulit" means? see paragraph [4])
me (11:47:10 PM): well doh... of course you wont see it as steve on YOUR end. i see it as steve on MY end. there's a difference
me (11:47:32 PM): hah! me? not nice? look who's talking. you started with 'dont call me
steve' thing
steve_w (11:43:50 PM): well how come my friend don't see it on his end then
me (11:48:14 PM): scroll up and read what i posted
steve_w (11:44:22 PM): and no one eles see's it eather
me (11:48:21 PM): READ IT
steve_w (11:44:53 PM): your the only one seeing steve
steve_w (11:45:01 PM): apparently
[7] apparently he didn't get what i said about the nicknaming feature. but mind you, i already explained that to him in the past (see last sentence of paragraph [3]). this guy is "makulit" and getting on my nerves.
steve_w (11:46:24 PM): and you don't what me calling you by your real name you sayed and Anton's not your real name any ways
steve_w (11:50:53 PM): so i never have used your real name in chat cuz anton's not your real name !!!!!!!
steve_w (11:51:29 PM): so don't call me steve no more ![]()
[8] what the hell is this guy talking about? did i ever said that anton is not my real name? i don't think so. what i said was for him to call me by my screen name instead of my real name in the chatroom. now, is that the same as "my real name is not anton" ???
steve_w (11:57:30 PM): if you would like me to start doing what your doing i could
steve_w (11:58:06 PM): read
steve_w (11:58:35 PM): cajuncougar2004: and you don't what me calling you by your real name you sayed and Anton's not your real name any ways
cajuncougar2004: so i never have used your real name in chat cuz anton's not your real name !!!!!!!
cajuncougar2004: so don't call me steve no more ![]()
[9] notice when he copied and pasted the text on his end, it shows up his yahoo id instead of the nickname i had set on my end. obviously, he didn't use the nicknaming feature on his id.
me (12:01:50 AM): wtf are you talking about
me (12:02:07 AM): read what
me (12:03:14 AM): and you better COMPREHEND what i told you to READ
me (12:03:24 AM): me: and i'm also asking you not to call me anton but instead call me by my screen name in chat. either tasyo or pasko
me (12:03:31 AM): me: well because he is not using nicknames unlike you, you set it as a nickname
me (12:03:38 AM): me: well doh... of course you wont see it as steve on YOUR end. i see it as steve on MY end. there's a difference
[10] now not only is he "makulit," but i think the right term for these kinds of people is "thick-headed."
steve_w (12:00:43 AM): okay i give up i think i'm just going to start you'sing your real name then becuz your not beeing nice to me
[11] there goes that "your not beeing nice to me" excuse/crap.
me (12:04:52 AM): i don't know what kind of GAME you are playing. but if you continue with this i'll start ignoring you
steve_w (12:01:24 AM): your the one playing a game not me
me (12:05:37 AM): right. this conversation is over. good bye
steve_w (12:01:58 AM): see
steve_w (12:02:05 AM): more rudeness
[12] ever heard of the term "an onion-skinned person?" simply put, it means the person is so sensitive that the slightest hint of criticism is enough to make that person moan about you. looks like he fits the description.
steve_w (12:04:22 AM): all i asked was is you could call me cougar and you blew it way up
steve_w (12:04:42 AM): thats not nice at all
[13] at this point, he came in yahoo! chat help:2 moaning about me giving him a headache and being rude to him (see paragraph [6]). naturally, the regs who don't know what happened were surprised because i helped this person in the past with his computer problems. and he comes in the room like a child moaning for sympathy votes. he then put me on both voice and text ignore. fine by me. i don't really care if he puts me on ignore. the funny part here is he kept going on and on about it whenever i'm in the room and he's in the room, like in the instances wherein somebody would mention my name in the room, then he comes in voice saying "i don't see or hear tasyo." um, dohhh! he has me on ignore that's why LOL.
[14] he calls me rude, right? well, since he has me on both text and voice ignore, i'll bet that he'll step on me if i talk on mic in the room. now, who's being rude? not me, cos i never did put him on text and voice ignore in the first place LOL.
