Ayyuthaya

Nic in front of temple A famous ruin in Ayyuthaya, but I forgot its name

We went to southern bus station at the outskirts of Bangkok and took a bus to the ancient city Ayyuthaya. The journey took around 2 hours and the buses were quite frequent. This ancient capital of Thailand, now left with only ruins that spread across the whole city. Some still looked magnificent, others already fallen apart. We seemed to be tranported back to ancient Thailand when it still was known as Siam and war was then fought on elephants. They never fail to amaze me when I imagine how grand they were hundreds of years ago and even till now, they were able to withstand the forces of nature for don't know how many more years to come.

I think I looked like Mr. Mushmellow manThe first time I went, I was searching for a sacred tree whose roots interwined the statue of a Buddha's head (hard to imagine without my photo right?), but i couldn't find it as there were too many site. It was only on my second trip that I discovered its location. It is now fenced up to prevent tourists from getting too near. I think it is simply amazing... I recommend this as a day trip from Bangkok, as it will be a break from the noisy and polluted capital.
