Fake Watches
An Extinct Species?
You see them less than before, those fake Rolexes, Cartiers and Breitlings that once were for sale in about every tourist place in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya. In the past years the Thai police now and then organized destruction sessions during which these imitations of expensive brands were all put on a heap and then crushed by steam rollers. Rumour goes that more than once some of these watches survived that treatment. Anyway, since the owners of the trademarks started to sue the crooks who offered them and the customers who bought em, these fakes are almost extinct (or at least endangered species) now and have become collector's items. If you have never seen such a fake, then enjoy this pic, showing a Cartier Pasha, one of the most expensive watches in the world. The owner told us that this copy was stolen during a burglary in his house. Can you imagine that? Who would steal a fake watch that is worth Baht 750 at the most?
