Greetings Guale & Josie,
My nephew forwarded The Garcia Story. which I read with great
interest.
My name is Agapito Garcia Jr. and grew up in Mathis. Most of the family
have departed from the area with the exception of two brothers who
live
in Corpus Christi.
I have been searching for our descendants for a few years and
noticed a
reference to Eulalio Garcia.
My great grandfather's name is Eulalio
Garcia however, little information is known about him. His son, my
grandfather, Juan (B. 1/27/1870) sharecropped in Live Oak county
until
his death in 1931.
Supposedly the family migrated from the Rio Grande
City area. In some parts
of your data I see that Alejandro Garcia &
Josefa Ramirez had a son named Eulalio. Could this be the link I'm
searching for? He had a
brother named Serapio, fate unknown. It
is
rumored that Eulalio engaged in a shoot out with rinches, killing
two
before being mortally wounded himself.
Needless to say I'd appreciate any info. on your relative, Eulalio
Garcia. Your done a great
job at researching; keep it up! Hope to hear
from you soon. Hasta
Entonce!! Agapito (714)894-0842 /

Que tal mano, I'm
enjoying this friendly encounter, especially since we've experienced so
many similar events.
Here a sampling of my background:
Started school late due to late return
from picking cotton en el west however advanced a grade, in
a segregated school ( la westward)
and due to my late-year birthday. I worked all types of
jobs and completed HS in '62 and soon
after started my wandering ways, leaving my dear parents
and younger siblings behind. Beside
living in Phoenix and Burbank, CA, I was reluctant to
enlist due to the Cuban crisis. I did
basic in
Ft Ord, in the old barracks near the underpass to the
firing range. I was assigned to 513th
Intelligence Corp Group in Germany, wherein I picked the
Stadt Hopper moniker you see in
my address (Juno is free and did not require my real name)
to help avoid Spam. After Germany,
I did my last 11 months in Nam. Due to my Top Secret security clearance, I was able to switch
from my original assignment (1st Cav.) to Hq.USARV in
Saigon Airport. I was not used to the field
and did not care to become a casualty/hero in the boonies
of An Ke. I had an opportunity to dance
with Ann Margaret
at a Johnny Rivers show but opted out due to the large herd on the floor.
Later
while at a snack bar I help a guy through an obstacle of
cluttered chairs. He was grateful and
sat
with me. It turned
out to be Robert Mitchem, the actor. We
talked general stuff but I never let on
that I knew him.
Afterward the onlookers surrounded me with questions, but I still
pretended
ignorance. What is
one supposed to say to celebrities without going googoogaaa? Of course Ft
Ord hold great memories for me. Although Leon's in Salinas was a place to dance Tejano, I loved
to visit San Jose which reminded me so much of fun times at
home. Upon my discharge in Oakland
I stayed with friends in San Francisco which lasted four
years during the Hippie, Soul (Oakland) and
Cesar Chavez Huelga periods.
Don't worry I'm neither gay nor a LSD/ druggie. Although was having a great time I still
longed for my original culture and attended Tejano/Chicano
weddings, dances, events, etc. in the
SF Bay area and eventually married a San Angelo expatriate
who grew up in Hayward. We have
two sons, Roman & Marco and two grandchildren. Sometimes I long to return to TX where most
of my siblings live.
I guess I'm too selfish cause I love the beach ( I windsurf 3 or 4 times
a week,
which I could do in CC.) and my family does not want to
move. Despite all my bragging rights, I
envy
my contemporaries who stayed close to home and became
successful. I picture myself as one of
them
however, at the time sticking around my negative influences
would have dragged me down.
So much for melancholy.
I do have one close cousin in Bell Gardens and through my research
have located one in San Bernardino and another in Dinuba so
when ever I feel a little lonely I visit
them. I hope your
dear Mom enjoys good health soon. My
Mom passed away in 2000 at age 90.
Oddly enough, I have more info on her family (Gabina
Rodriguez) than on the Garcias despite her
birth in Nuevo Leon.
Anyways I'll leave that for a later day......Thanks for the insight on
the
ancestry. I do know
Israel (Mele) Franco from Mathis however do not recall Vanie Garcia
Franco. His
youngest brother Eradio was my oldest brother's classmate. I talked to Eradio
in Oct 03 at my
brother's funeral in Austin. Thanks
again my brother...Agapito
