A group of us took a bus to the beach in Ashkalon, an ancient Philistine city. It is just north of the Gaza Strip.
A sandcastle I made on the Mediterranean beach.
Above: The Mediterranean Beach with warm clear water and red sand. Right: The Dormition Abby (picture taken outside my door looking east). It is the memorial of Mary's death. The place of the Last Supper and the Day of Pentecost are here as well. The bells ring every hour.
Many views of the city. Above: from the west. Below: from the east (Mt. of Olives). Right: from the "saddle" area of Mt. Scopus and Mt. of Olives.
To the right: The shrine to Jesus' death located right above the rock of Golgatha. The stone is encased in glass so it cannot be touched except for a small hole that you can put your hand through. I'm not really a sensationalist so I didn't do it.
Another church to Mary's death. This is common here.
