Text Box: FROM THE DEACON BOARD The work of the deacon is to meet the needs of the church, and the needs of the people. There is a need for deacons in the church. I was ordained on the 21st day of September 1975 as a deacon by the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the city of Philadelphia, Pa. I have been chosen as a man “of good report, full of the spirit, and wisdom,” and capable of using the office well. I was set apart publicly to the office, and work of a deacon. I give myself up to the perfect will of God. I consciously choose to think about the goodness of God and to meditate on God’s love and power. There is no challenge too big for God, and God is at work in and through me now. Through prayer I gain new insight and vision. My spirit is calmed and I am at peace. “If you believe, you will receive what ever you ask for in prayer”. Members, give thanks today, knowing that God’s Love does indeed open doors to abundant supply and that you are prospered. Joe Corley restored his membership back to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He had this to say about his decision to reunite with the Lord. “There comes a time when we all will have to stop running. I felt the time was now for me. I always knew what it took to become a child of God. I just didn’t want to put in the work. I finally realized that, going and doing Gods work was the only way into heaven. I was raised up in the church, but ran away from it as I got older.
