Kaz's Departure
by Tom Murray

I listened to the news of your leaving
what do you want to accomplish?
I'm am getting better
all of the time
because the troublemakers are vanishing
compassion is easier to come by
the lunchroom table is becoming empty
glees of joy and happiness
are erupting from my once bitter core
this is a new mode for the Gate
more peas and orange roses
falling off of my plate and into a crystal vase
Lutheran is a religious word
and the criticisms are much best
left at home
inside the beat-up filing cabinet
perched on an old horehound rug
shadowed by antiques
and neglected brass handles
smugness, sweet smiling, indignant eyes
we know she is
plotting, conniving
church classes
are the things for her
I visualized, she is so correct
always on top
during off hours
always has an answer
the route to the administration
when do you start?
a little nervous?
heart-pounding
not rendering a certain feeling
I have not been able to see
the result,
and the keyboards still keep clapping
and the enter key sings
with the left click
and I will tell you in conclusion
good luck in Candyland.
