Classroom Procedures
Procedures ensure that we get routine tasks accomplished in the classroom with a minimum of disruptions and wasted time. Practice makes progress!
1. Entering the classroom
Enter quietly and pick up any handouts from table on the way in
Put homework in file
Scan agenda and warm up activity on board "Para Empezar"
Gather any needed materials; they will be on the center table or by the door
Sit in assigned seat and begin warm up
Have ONLY the materials needed to work in Spanish on your desk
Por favor, do not ask la maestra questions related only to you at the beginning of class
"Para Empezar" (To Begin)
As part of the participation grade and to help us get focused on Spanish at the beginning of the hour, students are expected to begin right away on the activity posted on the board.
2. Dismissal
Clean up by putting everything in its place and the area around you is neat (a good time to help others)
Place your chair in front of the place markers on tables
Be seated or stand behind your chair until you are dismissed.
Dismissal will be when la maestra gives a blessing "A-Dios", not when students believe it is time to go.
3. Dame 5! (Give me five!)
Please freeze to listen with all five "ears" (mouth, eyes, hands, ears, mind) when you see the teacher raise her hand and say "Dame 5". This will take practice. Others will follow your good example and we will all benefit!
4. Homework and "La libreta"  (the notebook)
Homework assignments are due the next class session at the beginning of the class, unless otherwise informed.
THE ASSIGNMENT MUST BE COMPLETE with few errors TO RECEIVE CREDIT.
Write your Spanish first name, given last, date in espaol and class on every assignment
Your spiral notebook is important; bring it to every session; date and title each entry
Late projects and homework are reduced by 10%. An occasional homework quiz will be given.
Work without a name will receive no credit.
If effort is clear, work may be corrected and turned in for a higher grade.
Save ALL work in your three ring notebook, in chronological order.
5. Missed Class Work
You are encouraged and expected to complete all class and home work on time.
It is YOUR responsibility to make up work and projects if you are absent for any reason.
Place any homework that was due while you were gone in your grade file.
Check "la tarea" board and "Que Perdi?" notebook (What did I miss?) for handouts and assignments before or after class.
6. Absences and Late Work
Attendance is taken from the seating chart, therefore it is important that  you are in the assigned seat.
Partial credit will be earned for assignments turned in ONE class session late and a parent notice will be sent home. If work is unreasonably late, there is no credit. Assignment will still need to be completed and turned in. School is for learning!
Late projects will receive a 10% reduction for each day late.
7. Tardiness
Students must be in the classroom gathering materials and on the way to their assigned seat when the final bell rings.
Por favor, do not disrupt the class if you arrive late for any reason!
Enter quietly, lay your pass on my desk, sit in assigned seat and join in.
Excessive tardiness will be reported via a phone call or email home.
8. Make-up Quizzes and Tests "!Celebraciones!"
Since it is important that you participate in class, class time will NOT be allowed for make-ups.
Make-ups must be prearranged with "la Maestra" to be taken at lunch, before or after school.
If a test or quiz make-up has not been taken within two weeks of the original test date, it will result in a zero in the grade book.
9. Group Work
Working in groups will allow you to practice speaking Spanish, thus, improve and learn more.
If you have a question, ask your group members before me
When group grades are given, they are based on cooperation, attitude, and responsibility as well as completion of the task.
10. Por favor! Un poco mas!
Use the HFS Commandments of Courtesy, they are life long skills!
Follow the HFS procedures for emergency situations.
Gum, food or drinks are not allowed in class, except on special occasions.
Ask for a pass to leave the room only if it is absolutely necessary.
When you are "done", with a task, use the current vocabulary list to think about in Spanish, there are so many ways to do this!
Please wait to get out of your seat until there is a transition in the lesson plan or the class is working to do any of the following: sharpen pencil, drink water, wash hands, throw things away, use a pass, etc.)
