Grading Policies 4-8
Grades are one way to summarize your learning and a reason for celebration! Students will receive letter grades for two semesters and progress reports at each quarter. They reflect  skills and progress in the areas listed below.  Attention to each area will help you become excellent Spanish communicators!
Ability Attitude Performance
Comprehension Attendance/Punctuality Class participation
Speaking Effort/Neatness Quiz/Test (Written and Oral)
Reading Cooperation Homework/Projects
Writing Courtesy/Respect Attention/Effort
Grades 4 - 5 will receive a conduct/ participation grade using the scale below. As daily "tarea" (homework), I encourage students to teach family members what they are learning in Spanish class. To improve in their language learning, students may sing the songs and practice with the CDs or web sites at home for 10-15 minutes every day. There will be practice activities to be completed in class or at home. These will be corrected  and recorded as evidence of their learning. Daily points will be taken for speaking Spanish both in and out of class. Grades will reflect conduct, speaking/participation, attitude and performance areas, as listed above (minus quiz/test).
A - Outstanding -  Effort /conduct and participation in class and at home is excellent. All practice sheets are complete with minimum 90% accuracy. Spanish is used very often, in class and out, to communicate appropriately.
B - Good - Effort/conduct and participation in class and at home is good. Most practice sheets are complete with minimum 85% accuracy. Spanish is used often, in class and out, to communicate appropriately.
C  -Satisfactory - Effort/conduct and participation in class and at home is minimal. Some practice sheets are missing; completed work
is with minimum 70% accuracy. Spanish is used
once in a while in class to communicate appropriately.
D - Needs Improvement - There is no evidence of effort and participation in class or at home.  Many practice sheets are missing; completed work is less than 70% accuracy.. Spanish is used very little to communicate appropriately.
Grades 6-8 Letter grades are based on the HFS grading scale and are an average of weighted categories.

Oral Points for speaking Spanish (both in and out of class!) will be earned and recorded on the seating chart.  The goal is to present at least one individual "oral" presentation per quarter.
Participation and Conduct - This is completely up to the student and a very important part of the grade average!
Moving a pin "el broche" , signing the book "el libro" or a lunch conference "Almuerzo con la maestra" will lower this category of your grade.
Class work - oral or written, individual and/or group projects.
Homework - This will be posted on the white board for each class; "tarea" will be collected, reviewed in class and graded. Students can expect homework every day (oral or written) and is usually due the next scheduled class.
"Celebraciones"-  Because I believe we all learn in different ways, a grade may be adjusted if errors are corrected with translations on a separate paper and turned in with the original. This shows effort and commitment to learning!
