| During Easter weekend, I ventured down to the state of Florida via the wondeful airport system of the USA. Let me tell you, the camera almost didn't make it out of St. Louis, along with some sand I attempted to bring on the plane in a Coke bottle. I guess it's good that they search passengers but when they say these are "random" searches, why was I ALWAYS getting searched. Well anyway, it was all good. Anyway, first I had to travel from Bloomington to St. Louis. I got to the airport at 5:30am thanks to Anna, my friend who drove me at that hour. When I checked in, they wanted to put me on a plane which would have gotten to St. Louis at 7:30, which would have gotten me to Florida by 10:45. Sounded like a good plan, but a security breach at an airport the size of Prairie Lakes, forced an evacuation of the entire airport, including all the planes that had already boarded passengers! |
| So, I got to St. Louis at 7:45, late for my plane. They tried to put me on standby to Tampa but I initially had a flight at 10:24. (Remember, I took an "early" flight)! So, I had a seat to Tampa, I won. That flight was very uneventful. Anyway, I reached Tampa at 12:27pm (very ahead of schedule) So ahead of schedule that we had to sit on the runway while the plane in front of us, left our gate. I met a really nice flight attendant named Judith. She was really cool and down to Earth, and had pretty much the same philosophy of flying as I did. She's flown for over 20 years so she just "lived life." You can't be afraid of it. She did tell me some things though that she hopes everyone will see when flying. First, help the flight crew no matter what the situation. You're all together at 35,000 feet. And get to know the flight crew. They are always looking for the able-bodys who can help in the event of an emergency (terror or not). Even if it's a passenger with a disability or life threatening condition that develops. |
