Sarge is a Patagonian Conure.

We are unsure of his age but he is banded.  His band is an open band and that makes us suspect he was imported into the US.  It's been 10 + years since importing was allowed so he COULD potentially be older than that.  Of course, its likely also that he was banded as an adult at some point in his life as well, so who knows??  All I know is he is a great bird with an awesome personality.

However, he IS a conure.  Conure's have a bad rep for their vocalization.  He is no exception to that rule.  Some days are worse than others though, and seems that the more time I spend with him, the better his screaming is.  (Durh, isn't what he was put on earth for?  For constant attention and loving?)

Sarge was placed here with us after it was discovered that he was in fact a HE.  He was intended to be a breeder but his cage mate was also a male.  They were fighting too much and his previous owner was afraid someone would get hurt so she decided she had to part with one of them.  Since the other was her personal pet, Sarge came to me, for his own safety.

Here, he will be a single bachelor kinda guy.  He is caged alone in his own nice new condo bachelor pad cage.  Its a wrought iron, powder coated cage that I purchased in Tulsa at the Winter Expo show/sale.  Its off white and has a play gym on top that he spends most of his time on.

Sarge doesn't want to step up for me and thats okay.  When someone isn't home he is locked into his cage, but only then.  I can pick him up like a football but you can forget the stepping up thing.  I don't mind though because he is such a sweet natured bird.  He doesn't bite, even when you move him from place to place.  And he loves to be talked to.  There have been a few occassions where Mali (Senegal) has "bowed up" at him and he doesn't really back down, but he's like got other things to do than deal with a pesky lil guy like Mali.

He is a great eater.  I discovered he really likes peanuts after getting some for Gonzo as a treat.  Didn't take me long to figure out that he really recognizes them.  He has a fun little game of pick up if I try to give him something he doesn't want.  I hand it to him, and he throws it down.  I pick it up and give it back and he tosses it even further.  He loves that game.

He is alot like a Macaw in his actions and movements but not nearly as big as some of the bigger Macaws.  He does that 'Caw dance thing and loves to "share" with me by regurgiating for me.  Ewwwww, but thats really cool to me that he loves me enough to go to that level.

Anyway, below is Sarge...he is just wonderful!
