In this year of 2003, Mt. Smokeless has become somewhat of a "Brigadoon." Even though it has several hundred visitors each month, the mountain is no longer accepting new members and will be permanently retired in March, 2004. It was started in the Fall of 2000, as a link to Quitnet.com, by a woman with the screen name of "Pisa," who was attempting her umpteenth effort to end a 43 year smoking addiction. The creation of this virtual mountain climb and the subsequent participation of hundreds of fellow smoking addicts was an exercise in accountability that made this Quit different from all others. After almost a year of daily postings at " the Q" and endless hours of moving names in html, Pisa turned over the daily operations of Mt. Smokeless to Jason30, who kept the effort alive for another year and a half. Pisa has just celebrated 1000 days of freedom from smoking addiction and credits her success to the structure of the website Quitnet.com and to the members, who visit it daily.  |
