The Mountain Home Lions Club has been in existence for over 45 years. 
Our radio auction is an annual event (started in 1953) and our only
fund raising activity of the year. Each year our members solicit items
from local business to be auctioned. The auction lasts five nights 
and runs from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This year's auction is scheduled 
for November 9th through the 13th. Items historically will bring on 
average, 70 to 75 percent of retail value. Several business donate 
cash or purchase savings bonds which always bring 100% to 105%. 
For the past several years we have been simulcasting our auction on 
a local cable channel which has met with a great deal of success. 
Bidders can see the items that they are bidding on and at the same 
time see who has the high bid. Our local business have been very 
generous in the past and it looks like this year will be no different.
All of the money raised goes toward sight care. Last year we raised 
over $14,000.00, and during the fiscal year we spent over $6,000 on 
eye care directly within Baxter County. Seventy-nine children and 
twenty-eight adults received eye exams and or glasses. One individual
received cataract surgery.  Additionally a $5,000.00 contribution was 
split between Mid-South Lions Service Center in Memphis and Lions World
Services for the Blind in Little Rock. Mid South is were we send people
who need surgery. Lions World Services in Little Rock, is a teaching 
facility helping visually impaired individuals lead normal productive 
lives. Money not spent is carried over for the next fiscal year. 

Most of the people we help are referred to us through school nurses, 
but any one who has a need can apply to us for aid. Applications are 
available at the Department of Human Services, 204 Bucher Dr. Mtn. Home.
