Manheim Township (2) vs.
Marietta (1)
The game started out fast paced. There were many 1-2-3
innings to start the game. Township pitcher Alex Sota kept Marietta
scoreless while allowing few players to even reach first base. However,
Marietta's pitcher threw just as well. The game was scoreless through 5
full innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning, a leadoff hit by Andy
Dochterman put a runner on base with no outs. Austin Gallagher, the next
batter of the inning would walk. A passed ball would advance the runners
to second and third. Shawn Keller then hit a long shot out to right field
that was caught at the warning track, sacrificing Dochterman for the first
run of the game. However, Marietta struck back in the top of seventh
inning, and scored one run off of Brett Conway (who relieved Sota that inning)
to tie the game at 1 a piece. After some controversial calls from the
umpire, Township would not be able to go ahead and win the game in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Neither team would be able to score any runs
in the eighth inning. In the ninth inning, Conway would get out of a bases
loaded and 1 out situtation when Andy Dochterman turned a double play to end the
inning. In the bottom of ninth inning, with 2 outs, Jared Ellis came to
bat and reached second base on an error after a bad throw to got past the
first-baseman. Andrew Smoker then lined a double to right field to score
Ellis and end the game.
