Manheim Township
(4) vs. Middletown (1)
On a perfect summer night, Manheim Township faced off against
Middletown. The game was off to a fast start, with no runs scored in the
first two innings of play. In the top of the third inning, Middletown
would draw first blood by scoring one run. Township
would only be able to tie the game during the next three innings,
scoring only one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings combined.
Township pitchers Dane Yoder and Austin Gallagher also managed to
keep Middletown at one run through all these innings as well. Then,
in the bottom of the sixth inning, Austin Gallagher (the first batter of the
inning) belted a home run that went approximately 375 feet, hitting the
scoreboard in right-centerfield. This homerun marks only the second time
that any player has hit a homerun off the Township scoreboard, the first being
done by Jeff Murse in 1992. Gallagher's homerun brought new life into
Township, who then went on to score two more runs during the inning and giving
them the 4-1 lead going into the seventh and final inning. In the seventh
inning, Township pitcher Austin Gallagher struck out two batters in a row to end
the inning and give Manheim Township another
win.
