Township
(4)
vs. Lititz (3)
With the season on the line and the Championship game at hand, Township went into game 2 against Lititz with confidence and a never say die attitude. The weather was bad, it was rainy and wet and there was a strong wind blowing. Needless to say, there could have been better days on which to play a championship baseball game. Lititz drew first blood in the first inning, when an error by Austin Gallagher and a hit batter put two runners on base. Bobby Thompson then came up and hit a double, scoring both runs and giving Lititz a quick 2-0 lead after 1 inning. Despite a double by Josh Bucher and a single by Andy Dochterman, Township was unable to score any runs in the first inning. Pete Andrelczyk, who was doing the pitching for Township, quickly worked out of the second inning, getting three straight batters out. Austin Gallagher, leading off the second inning, then ripped a solo homerun over the right field fence putting Township down by only a run. In the third inning, Lititz added to the damage when a sacrifice fly knocked in the third run for Lititz, giving them a 3-1 lead. Township struck right back in the bottom of the inning. Austin Gallagher lead off the inning with a single. Jared Ellis also got on base, putting runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly brought in Gallagher. Ellis would also score on an RBI single. After four complete inning, Township had tied the game at 3. Andrelczyk battled out of the 5th, 6th and 7th inning, allowing no runs, and allowing almost no runners to even reach base. With the score still locked at 3 and the weather becoming progressively worse, Township came up to bat in the final inning of regulation play. However, no one was able to reach base, taking the game into the 8th inning. The top of the 8th was dangerous. Lititiz players managed to hit back to back singles, putting runners on first and second with no outs. The next batter then sacrifice bunted and was thrown out at first. However, Lititz had accomplished exactly what they wanted, putting both runners in scoring position with only one out. Andrelczyk struck the next batter out, and the following batter flew out to right field, ending what could have been the game-winning inning for Lititz. Dane Yoder lead of the bottom of the 8th inning. Dane slammed a triple to put himself into scoring position. Shawn Keller then roped a long fly ball to deep centerfield. The centerfielder for Lititz knew that even if he caught the ball, the game was still over, therefore, he gave up on it, allowing for Dane Yoder to score, winning the American Legion District 10 playoffs. Township will move on to the Regional Tournament, which starts Tuesday, July 27th.
