GAME 1: Manheim Township (7)
vs. SouthWestern (8)
A beautiful day at Manheim
Township High School would host Township's first double header of the
season. In game 1, Sean Rigney started pitching for Manheim
Township. Rigney would dominate the mound in the first two innings
that he pitched, allowing no runs and only 1 hit in two innings. The score
was deadlocked at zero until the fourth inning when Township drew first blood
scoring three runs thanks to key hits by Tom DeLellis, Steph Martell and Pete
Andrelczyk. Shawn Keller, who had two hits and two RBI's in the game was
key to Township attaining a 7-2 lead going into the sixth inning. However,
Andrew Haden, who replaced Andy Dochterman as pitcher in the sixth inning, did
not fare as well as his preceeding teammates. In the sixth inning,
SouthWestern struck back scoring five runs, which tied the game at seven.
Township was unable to salvage any runs in the sixth inning. It was during this
inning that a controversial call was argued by the Township coaches and the
officials. In the top of the seventh inning, Southwestern would score
another run against Haden. Township did not come back in the bottom of the
inning and sustained their first loss of the season.
GAME 2: Manheim Township (2)
vs. SouthWestern (0)
It's hard to believe that such a high scoring first game could
lead into a second game that, for the most part, went scoreless. Neither
team was able to salvage any runs in 5 wholes innings. Brett Conway, the
starting pitcher for Township allowed zero runs and only 2 hits in his four
inning on the mound. In the fifth inning, Dane Yoder, replaced Conway as
the pitcher. Yoder pitched just as good as Conway, allowing no hits in three
whole innings of pitching. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with
Dane Yoder on first base due to an error, Austin Gallagher skyed a fastball over
the lights and out of the right field fence. The estimated distance of the
home-run is 390 feet. Gallaghers HR put Township up 2-0. Yoder held
SouthWestern in the top of the seventh inning giving Township the split for the
day and their third win of the season.
