What started out as a seemingly quick with 1,2,3 innings soon
turned into a game of attrition that lasted 9 full innings and resulting in
Township's eventual win over New Holland. For four full innings, the game
was scoreless, until in the bottom of the fifth,
Dane Yoder knocked in
Shawn Keller to put Township up 1-0. Township was
able to hold onto this lead until the top of the seventh inning, when a daring
move by New Holland to steal home plate payed off, tying the game
at one. In the top of the eigth inning, New Holland would score four
runs off of
Brett Conway
with 2 outs, putting them ahead of Township by a score of 5-1.
However, Township struck back in the bottom of eigth inning when three
consecutive walks lead to a bases loaded situation.
Andy Dochterman
received a walk, scoring a run and making the game 5-2.
Township scored another run, but also endured two outs. With runners, on
second and third and two outs,
Shawn Keller knocked a hard single into left field,
scoring the two runs and tying the game at 5. Township held New Holland in the
top of the 9th, thanks to
Alex
Sota's pitching, and in the bottom of the 9th inning, with a runners
on second and third and two outs,
Josh Bucher hit a ball to second base. The ball
took a bad hop, resulting in the second basemen's error and Manheim Township's
first win of the season.
