| Calgary... hmm! For sure Calgary is very different then Vancouver; the lively downton that we had in Vancouver was not the case in Calgary. Here people live in subburbs but they are more down to hearth upfront and socialable. Tanks to the Calgary Stampede 2004 that has created a 2 week period with cowboys and cowgirls around the city having fun, a lot of fun... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Our end of city break was extended to a 4 day vacation (low level of ticket sales forced us to take this break) which we took the opportunity to enjoy hot Kelowna in Beautiful British Columbia. We took advantage of the nature of its climate to go to The Flags in Kelowna, BC. A gay B&B that allowed us to be free and relaxed in the surroundings of Kelowna. We have visited wineries and beaches during theses 4 days, have relaxed and found fresh fruits like we do not found at all in our supermarkets (try the Lapin cherries). Do not try the clothing optional beach in Kelowna... it is not worthed the detour, Wrech beach is still the best in BC. A detour to do around Penticton towards Kelowna it is the Naramata road, but turn around once you get into the woods... if not you will be on a 2 hour drive in a bumpy road and burnt forest of the 2003 fire. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The weather has been very unpredictible while we were in Calgary. First the summer arrived one month later, but I think most of the regions in Canada have a bad summer. Here, they say if you do not like the weather, wait another 5 minutes and you might be pleased. Since we are camping (working outside or under tents) at work, we always had to be ready for anything. Heavy rain, hot and warm sunshine, hail, high wind, clear blue sky or tornado watch... We saw it all in few weeks. But here peolpe do not complain about it (12c in July) like we often do in Montreal, they are used to it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Since the city was not always the best place to be, we took some time to visit nice regions around Calgary. Our first stop was Waterton Lakes National Park 2.5 hours south of Calgary. We stayed the night in a nice B&B in the village near the Cameron falls. Very nice people and very calm. We hiked the sorounding mountains, took a boat trip on the lake, the day was just amazing. We have been suggested during the diner to cross the border the next morning and go in Montana to drive through the American part of this park (Glacier National Park). We certainly did not regret it. It is one of the most beautiful place we have seen in our live. Enjoy the pictures galery (to come). |

| Thanks to our new canadian gymnast friend Michael, we discovered a new side of the Calgary region... His pride and willingness allowed us to discover the best of Alberta. He guided us to Banff and Lake Morraine (near Lake Louise) and then back to .... lively downtown Calgary for an outdoor dinner with our best friend Michel Laverdiere visiting us from Montreal and looking for Wess.... In the following day, we had one of the most tasting meat we ever had; a great steak at Hy`s Steakhouse. Nothing fancy but very tasty as the meat itself was very flavoured. Our Calgary experience was oriented towards people, wilderness and beauty of life. As promised when we left the last city, we went back to Vancouver before leaving North America. We spend our last 12 hours in the most beautiful canadian city (sorry Montreal but you will have to experience it to understand it). August 1st was Gay pride and PARTY time... |
