Akhlaaq / Conduct

Initially, I intended to talk about the akhlaaq/conduct of a true believer. But then I realized that the best example of Akhlaaq for any Muslim is the example of the Beloved Prophet. So instead of talking about a believer himself, I decided to change the topic slightly and talk about talk about the conduct of our Beloved Prophet Himself. Let us analyze His conduct, and let us try to be like Him.

Rasool Allah had the mildest of temperaments of all. He was the bravest of all, fairest of all and pious of all. His blessed hand never touched a woman not lawful to him. His generosity was incomparable. His food, too, was very simple, mostly dates and barely. If anybody wanted anything of Him, he would oblige him. He would mend his own shoes and sew his own clothes. He would also do the housework. He was more modest than any body. He would accept invitations. If a gift were sent he would accept it. He would always return the favor by giving gifts in exchange. Never in his entire life had he ever eaten to his stomachs full. He possessed incomparable humility and was the Most Honorable. His talk would never be lengthy and boastful. He had a smiling expression.

He liked perfumes but disliked stench, smell, and pungent powder. He would sit with the poor and the needy and would feed the poor. He would respect those exhibiting good conduct. By dealing kindly with notables he would win their hearts. He would extensively meet the members of his family. He would never lie, even for the sake of humor. If there were noise and tension around he would adopt patience. He was kind to little children, and showed more affection to the poor than to the rich. He was tender and compassionate to the weak and to strangers. His kindness and compassion extended to all Allah's creatures. He was humble.

He would accompany a funeral, and visit the sick, whether Muslims or non-Muslims and ask about their condition and how they were feeling. He used to visit poor people. If slaves and poor folk invited him, he would call at their homes. He used to say: "Be compassionate toward every creature, so that Allah may have mercy on you too." He attended to his own affairs. He used to eat together with his servant, whom he helped with some of his tasks. There was none so just, so trustworthy and truthful as He.

It was his blessed habit that if he would meet somebody he would say the Salaam first. If anybody would stop him to say something then it was his practice to stand there till the other person had left himself. If anyone would shake hands, he would not withdraw his hand till the other had withdrawn it first. Whenever he would meet a companion he would warmly shake hands and then interlock the fingers and give him a gentle squeeze.

He had a very polite, soft and refined manner of conversation. Most of the time, he would sit silent and would never open his mouth without some genuine and urgent cause. In case of anger or emotional state he would not tell a lie. He smiled quite often but no one ever saw him laughing loudly. Amongst all the people, he would be the last to get annoyed and the first whose anger would melt. He was extremely noble and kind.

Tomorrow's Topic: Aitikaaf

P.S. Pass it on to friends, family, neighbors, Muslims and Non Muslims alike.
