For this article I have gone block. There are some distinguished block cards that everyone is playing and they are easy to see why.
#5 Kokusho The Evening Star
#4 Umezawa's Jitte
#3 Heartbeat Of Spring
#2 Final Judgement
#1 Cranial Extraction
Now people are probably saying, cranial, judgement, jitte, kokusho, these are all bombs but I haven't seen that heartbeat played. Well you know what? Ya haven't read pro tour Philly then. Even in a slow format like Kami block it's still all about speed and when your hand consists of a dragon a myojin and another bomb, you need to get em down before you lose em to discard. Heartbeat is the only way of dropping your friends fast enough. Only problem is your opponent may be thanking you for the land. Always have a wear away handy to destroy the opponents jitte, or your heartbeat.
Great bombs in block that I have noticed are the green myojin, Say hello to my big friends. and a very underrated creature outside of ponza, Kumano. Play kumano in red green heartbeat and watch him ping for 8 with all that extra land.
The cheap fatties like North tree and ayami (7/3 legendary landwalk) are very good for their mana costs and also beware of the kirin. Kirin are gonna rule in block. some maros can also but I doubt many will see play. Red and green maros are very good but I don't think in block they will be good enough. The black one will be though, heads up for him.
Black is by far the strongest color in block but green is very very good too. most of the top bombs are black like kagemaro kokusho and cranial. Red and green have a couple each, kumano and red myojin (get creature advantage and blow the land!!) and green myojin and sekki. But white with yosei and final judgement is playable mainly because they abuse jitte the best. Blue has cloudhoof kirin and keiga but also meloku so it is playable too but blue will run into more problems than answers in block. As may red if used as a main color.
My deck is Green Red because I wont buy cranials and kokusho's or jitte's. It is a cheaper build but it is lightning quick if done right. For example. Turn 1 Forest Sakura tribe scout. Turn 2 mountain, scout drops a land, heartbeat. Turn 3 land sekki or scout drops a fifth land and red myojin clears em. Kinda hard to comeback from turn 3 7/4 with no land on board. The only problem is opponents turn 2 you're giving them free use of heartbeat. 4 land means turn 2 cranial or with land acceleration kokusho. The idea has premise but isn't a guarenteed winner. Watch for green black to be the best decks in block.
