Problems connecting to the chatroom

The chatrooms require Java to be installed and enabled.

You might receive this error when the chatroom page loads:
"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

Under Internet Explorer 6, click on "Tools | Internet Options..." then select the "Security" tab. Click on "Custom Level..." Scroll down to "Microsoft VM/Java Permissions". Select "High safety". Click on "OK" and then "OK" again.

If you have Windows XP or see a broken link icon, please visit the Sun Microsystems site for the Java download.

If you are attempting to access the chatroom through a firewall, you might need to forward ports 8000-8009.

AOL members should use Internet Explorer to connect to the chatroom page.

If you are still having trouble connecting to the chatroom, post to the forums with your error, operating system, browser, browser version, and anything else you can think of.

/beepall: To get a beep sound when someone messages in the chat
/nick [new nickname]: change your nickname
/action [your action]: action for yourself
To send a private message to another player:
      Type /msg [nickname] [message]

To open a private message window with another player:
      select player's name, right-click, select "Send Message"

To ignore a player:
      select player's name, right-click, select "Ignore"

You may connect to this chatroom with an IRC Client program

/quit: leave chat and disconnect from server
/nick [new nickname]: change your nickname
/msg [nickname] [message]: send a private message to [nickname]
/me [action]: action for yourself
To open a private message window with someone: double-click that person's nickname
To float chat window: click on the box on top right side of chat window,
    then resize window if desired

To register your nickname:
1) Make sure you are using the nickname you want to register
    To change your nickname: Type /nick [nickname]
    example: /nick JavaJoe
2) Type /msg nickserv register [password] [emailaddress]
    make sure your email address is valid, in case you need your password emailed to you
    example: /msg nickserv register abc123 [email protected]
X) Each time you enter the chatroom, verify your nickname with your password.
    Type /msg nickserv identify [password]
    example: /msg nickserv identify abc123
