Stefan Brodie and Brendan Ollsson

I am a South African and love my country but I do not love the crime
that has been allowed to escalate. I currently do not live in S.A.
because of all the violence. The common factor amongst all South
Africans is that we all know somebody who has been attacked.

I personally, have 4 friends that have been attacked either in their
own homes.

One was shot dead (see paper extract below)

Family friends, husband and wife managed to escape after being tied up
and then tied together, blindfolded, pistol-whipped, 38 special shoved
into their mouths and then told that soon as they (the attackers) had
finished drinking all the alcohol that they were then going to shoot
them both (the couple).

Another friend managed to over come his attackers and shot both of
them dead.

A friend’s uncle was shot dead for his bakkie (vehicle), police suspect that
after shooting him, they were scared and escaped without taking
anything. Murderer was never found

A family friend was shot whilst crossing the road heading towards the
bank, apparently for his money! (This murderer was never found, even
after apparently hanging around the body of this man for half an hour,
waiting for him to die from his gunshot wounds before making his
escape.)

The following is extracted from a newspaper clipping, except for what
is encapsulated in the brackets, of a New Zealand friend I met whilst
in London that was murdered whilst visiting South Africa.

A New Zealander and his housemate, Mr. Brendan Ollsson, were shot dead
when they apparently arrived home from a nightclub to find armed
burglars ransacking the house near a trout farm in Diepsloot early
yesterday morning, said Pretoria police spokesman, Morne van Wyk.

The New Zealander, whose name is being with-held until his next-of-kin
are told (his name is Stefan Brodie) and Mr Ollsson were shot in the
head with what seemed to be a small calibre firearm, Capt van Wyk
said.

Mr Anthony Ollsson found the bodies of his 25 year-old brother and the
26 year-old housemate (Stefan Brodie) at 10.45am yesterday when he
visited the house they had rented the past six weeks on the
smallholding property of Footloose Trout Farm.

The unnamed man (Stefan Brodie) was lying in the passage with Mr
Ollsson two or three metres away in the bedroom.

It was initially thought the men were hacked to death, but this was
not the case. There was a lot of blood where they lay and this made it
difficult to determine the cause of death, said Capt van Wyk.

A post-mortem would be conducted to determine the cause of death, he
said.

The men were last seen alive at a nightclub in Sunninghill at 1am
yesterday with another housemate, Mr. Peter Fitt, who had spent the
night elsewhere.

Household goods, radio parts and sunglasses were found strewn in the
veldt surrounding the premises and at this stage it was not known what
was stolen.

A laptop computer is missing.

A police footprint tracker followed a trail to the Diepsloot squatter camp.
The Pretoria Murder and Robbery Unit was investigating
the shooting, said Capt. van Wyk.

A housebreaking close to the trout farm was reported on Saturday
night, but Capt. van Wyk could not provide details of the incident.
