ACT#1: BLOOD! (pg. 926-929 text) A) Give me all the functions of the blood! B) Blood is composed of all 4 parts: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Please copy down and answer the following Qs, and tell me the relative amounts: 1) Plasma Water %? Plasma proteins (what do these proteins do?) %? Digested foods/ wastes %? Ions/ Minerals � keeps tabs on fluid volume and pH differences. %? 2) RED blood cells What do they look like? (a little sketch will do) What do they do? How many RBCs are there in a cubic centimeter or milliliter in males vs females? FACT: Mature RBCs no longer have their nucleus. They are bright red when oxygenated, dark red when poorly oxygenated, and only appears blue in blood vessels near the skin. 3) WHITE blood cells or LEUKOCYTES List the 5 types? What do they do? Are you more likely to see more RBCs or WBCs in a given volume of blood? 4) Platelets What do they do? C) Do the quick lab on page 928. Ask your teacher for those slides of blood cells. |
