NJ Trails
New Jersey... home to traffic, smog, over population and to most peoples' surprise some kick ass hiking and biking trails. It's not the North shore or Moab but I call it home. Click on the trail names to view it's maps and some pictures
( It's not NJ, but it's still a cool pic.)
Kittatinny Valley State Park
Kittatinny Valley is small park next to Areo Flex air port in Andover. Rolling hills with hard packed dirt and plenty of rocks keeps you on  your guard and always moving fast. At first I started getting sick of riding the same loop time after time. But after  I got to know the area this became one of my favorite places to ride.

Wawayanda State Park
Stokes State Forest

Wawayanda St Park is located about 15 min. from Mountian Creek water park, and  about two hours from my house so I'm only able to ride there about once a month. I LOVE this place. On my first few treks I road the same loop, and was kind of disapointed in the size of the park. Boy was I wrong!! This place is huge, and must ride for north jersey bikers. Park in the rear lot and finish up with the yellow trail.(make sure to get off at the camp grounds! The rest of the trail leads out of the park and into hunter heaven. If your into some real extream riding, strap some antlers on your head and leave the park. I'll give you a 3% chance of survival.
Stokes was nice ride, a lot of hiking, but still a nice ride. There's a very nice view at the top of sunrise mountian. If you make the trek up there  make sure you pack an extra set of lungs because it's all up hill. Some parts of Stokes are not suited for biking(avoid the Stony Brook Trail) but don't let that stop you from  taking a great trip.

P.S. a great place to camp and ride.

Mahalon Dickerson
Mahalon Dickerson can be discribed as follows: fast single track with some technical sections and very big hills. I like big hills, I get a great workout and "what goes up must come down".  I seem to be addicted to fast down hill so getting to the top is that much easier for me. This park isn't huge but you should give yourself  3 of 4 hours to make the loop. This will give you a chance to stop at headly over look for lunch. and not have to sprint to your  car before it gets dark.

Allamuchy State Park
Map,Pics
Allamuchy has some great lung burning hills, fast single track, and a ton of trail wash. I like riding here but the giant puddles that stay there for days after every rain storm can get on your nevers. There all about 7" deep wich fools you into riding through them. Thats's when you realize that there is about a 1'
of mudd underneath it. And this is't normal mud , it's that stuff that smells like pure shit. I've been told this place has a number of very long loops, but I have yet to hook up with any one who knows how to find them. If you can find it there is a NJ highlands trail here that some boy scouts built water bars into to stop the trail wash. This trail rocks! It's all up hill but there is a kick ass view at the top, and the way down supplies you  a fast smooth ride with a couple of 3'+ drops.
Sussex Branch Trail
Not a very exciting ride, but a good place to just spin or take the kids.
Map= go straight, get tired turn around.
High Point State Park
My first trip to High point was cut short by a flat tire. I had run into some local riders who where nice enough to patch me up, but as soon as they got out of sight the patch let go and I found myself walking back to the top of the mountain. I was only on my bike for about twenty mins. before the flat, so I can't give a total review of the park. The part I did ride on was very technical and well worth another trip.

Ringwood State Park
Ringwood offers everything you want in a ride. Single track, fireroads, fast downhills, technical sections and a mountian biking friendly ranger staff make Ringwood a great place to ride. Sadly it's quite a drive from my house and it's wasn't so much better than my local trails that I would take more than two trips up there a year. The park ranger there made it seem that the trails were an impossible maze to navigate and that we should stay with in an hour of the trail head. Yeah right. Some of the trails do  look very similar and can easily be mistaken for oneanother but with a map and a 1/2 way decent sence of direction can make it out in a couple of hours.

**make sure to ride the "RVCC"(Ramapo Valley Cycle Club) trail!
