Welcome to Speedy's Home Page
![]()
Hi,
Speedy went on to the Rainbow Bridge the beginning of September, 2005. He is sorely missed.
This isn't really Speedy's HomePage, that would be ridiculous, since Speedy is a ten-year old Miniature Pinscher, but as you will see by looking at his picture, he is a handsome fellow.I know that if he were able to set up a homepage, he'd probably do it, because
- he's really smart,
- quite clever,
- extremely gregarious
- likes to talk to everybody who visits
- or even just walks by outside on the street.
More About Speedy
Speedy is a purebred, registered dog, raised for the show ring, but rescued from that fate in 1995 when I got him from the breeder. His registered name is Speedway Speedy, and he is the son of AKC Champion Dog Freeway Freddy. When he's not busy defending the homeland from foreign threats, Speedy loves traveling in the car or truck, hiking and exploring in the woods with me, or riding across a lake in my canoe.
Although Speedy is currently waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge, he will always be one of the great dog loves of my life, but he's far from being my first dog. Nor is he, by any stretch of the imagination, the last. In late April, 1999, Faylene Grace came to live with us. She, too, is a registered MinPin, black and rust, and she's anxiously awaiting the chance to put her own story on the web. Watch this site for more info on the lovely lady who now graces our home. Rocky joined us in late 1999, and Minnie in 2001. In February, 2006, I moved into my mother's home in Smith River, California, to care for her through the end of her life. The kids all stayed with Gary in Missoula. Unable to live without a MinPin, I watched the paper, and in April, Gypsy came to live with me. Rocky, Minnie, and Gypsy, like Faylene, are black and rust MinPins. The other dogs in my life have been:
- Rocky, a MinPin (Black and Rust)
- Faylene Grace, a MinPin (Black and Rust)
- Dinah, a MinPin (Black and Rust)
- Hans, AKA Ann's Royal Jester of Richbob, a Keeshond
- Yazee, a Cairn Terrier cross
- Jr., (pronounced Junior), a MinPin cross
- Kirby, a Schipperke
and last but certainly not least- Speedy, the handsome fellow who owns this page.

Dogs In My Life
The newest member of our family is a beautiful girl named Gypsy, seen above. Prior to Gypsy came Minnie, thanks to the Missoula Humane Society, and prior to Minnie was Rocky, the fine looking fellow on the right. He entered our home in early November, 1999. As you can see, he's a black and rust male MinPin, 3 years old. He came to us thanks to the fine folk at the Bitterroot Animal Shelter in Hamilton, Montana. We're very happy he's come to round out our family.
Recently, a new girl has entered our lives. Faylene Grace has come to grace our home with her feminine charm. Born in 1996, she is the most loving 3 year old imaginable. The only member of the family who can't quite figure her out is Princess, the cat. Princess was ready to tolerate one MinPin, but two is too many she says. I have to say, she's the only one in the house who feels that way. Here's another picture of our girl.

When I was about 18 months old, my parents decided that every boy needs a dog. We drove over to the Emigrant Valley (south of Livingston, Montana--famous now for all the Hollywood types who live there) and picked up a young female black and tan MinPin. We named her Dinah, and she lived with us for the next fourteen years. In this picture, taken by my father in the early 50s, Mother and I are standing in front of our parsonage in Laurel, Montana, with Dinah in the right foreground.
Dinah quickly became my mother's dog (I was very young, remember), and after she died, mother said, "Never again!" That was in 1965. In 1969, I was travelling in Montana with a college friend and visited old friends in Laurel. They were now raising Keeshonden, and asked if I would like to have one of their dogs. Hans and I bonded almost immediately, and after a lengthy drive back to the Bay Area from Montana, with 2 college males and a rather large dog in a 2-door Comet Caliente, we all arrived back in Pinole, CA where my mother refused to acknowledge that this dog was now ours. In this picture, taken at our cabin in Montana's Bitterroot Mountains in August, 1972, my father is cradling Hans.
My love of Min Pins has continued unabated all through the years I shared my life with other breeds. In the late 80s I learned that a friend who had a MinPin male and a miniature shepherd female was expecting puppies. I knew at once that I had to have one of those pups. We first saw the pups at 3 weeks and found five small wonders--two of which looked exactly like Black and Tan MinPins, two of which were colored like German Shepherds, and one which stood out. All white with the exception of one red ear and a red ring around the opposite eye--how could we refuse. Jr. may not have looked much like a MinPin as far as color is concerned, but he sure had the intelligence and personality of any MinPin I've ever known.
