im sure that anyone who is reading this has had a bad experience in a race or just riding with your mates when something has gone wrong with your bike and has resulted in last place or even injury and if you havent im sure it will happen it is always better to be safe then sorry so ive made a little guide as to what you should do to keep yuor bike running well.
1. your frame wont often need much work but still you should check the tubes close to the steerer tube and around the bottom bracket for cracks if you have a full suspension bike then remember to occasionally check the rear triangle joints and make sure the shock is set up right for the conditions you will be riding

2.brakes are always in constant need of adjustingthe main concern is brake pad alingnment, the position of the caliper itself.

3.the shifter and derailer are in need of constant correcting and adjusting. To make sure youre shifter is adjusted properly scale the shifter all the way down bring the chain to the smallest cogs and check that the shifter wheels are in line with the external edge if they are not adjust the screw marked H pushing it to the left bring the chain to the innermost cogs and this time adjust the screw marked L now position the chain on the small chainring and use the inner screw to move the derailer 1mm inward. repeat the operation with the large chainring and the external screw moving the derailer 1mm outward.

4.fork maintenence is very simple and limited to good cleaning of the exterior of the inner legs and adjustin the rebound/ compression for th terrain you are riding for forks with this function.

5.the cranks and headset are constantly vibrated by rough terrain all nuts and bolts for that matter require attention. on the cranks simply tighten the outside bolts. on the headset you shold first slacken the stem collar then tighten the expander bolt then retighten the sten collar.
