Religion

I am a Christian, most recently a Catholic (1995). I am a little fundamentalist in my moral convictions. I am a zealot when it comes to finding the truth. I prefer truth to beauty, so I won't lie to spare someone's feelings, for example. I have studied many religions, and I am always fascinated by them, and what they seem to tell me about people in general. Religions are the organization of man's attempt to understand, and explain the world. This is also the purpose behind science. Religion and science are sometimes at odds with one another. This theme has been repeated throughout recorded history. When religion becomes sufficiently organized, it becomes a tool to control when used by evil men. This also is a common theme.

As an American citizen, I enjoy the right to choose my own religion, and to celebrate that choice in my own way. What I do not accept is the liberal left's tendency to disallow a public indication of the same religion that the overwhelming majority of the people that pay for the government wish to make. That is what a violation of our first amendment rights actually looks like. The ACLU is one of the instruments of this campaign, and as I write this, they are busy creating much litigious ado about nothing. This is their modus operandi. For example, in Los Angeles county, the ACLU is busy modifying the flag of the county. They want the cross removed from the flag. They have no qualms about the other religious symbol on the flag (namely the goddess Pomona...an idol of a pagan religion.) There is a nice blurb about the seal, and what it is meant to convey about Los Angeles here. I do not see the issue. I have heard their position, and it is ludicrous. The agenda of the ACLU is clearly to undermine religion, which is sad. This organization has a much more useful charter, but as they continue to stir the pot with this type of frivolous (and dangerous, make no mistake about that.) litigation, they undermine all authority, and things lose meaning.

We are now faced in America with another attack on our core morality. This is the issue of same sex marriage, and it is of great import. Again, I have to say that the liberal position that is being advocated is wrong, both morally and politically. There is the correct notion that people are free to choose their lifestyles...I do not think that should be legislated against at all. The government must step in however, if rights of non-like thinking people are affected. Marriage is not just a union of legal concerns, it's intent is to create a family. Homosexuals cannot do this alone. For that, and other reasons, marriage in the current sense is UNAVAILABLE to them. Period. There could be allowed some compensation for the legal aspects of the living arrangement, but that is already available as a recourse in the situation of heterosexual arrangements that are similar. It is not so much an attempt to legislate morality, as it is a result of what Moses referred to as an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22 - "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." [KJV]) The left would be much more successful if they realized that there are negative consequences to our existence as human beings, and they should quit trying to reduce things the the least common denominator. A very compelling discourse can be found here
