Web development combines my two favorite things: design and technology. Art has always been a part of my life, but after obtaining my Associate in Fine Art in 2011, I realized that it would not help in obtaining a career I was happy with. Going back to school for computer science showed me that I could utilize my interest in art and design to code and implement websites and web applications. Obtaining a career in web development will help me accomplish my goal of making a career change and to apply the knowledge I’ve learned in school within a professional environment.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in computer science with a Concentration in Web Development at Southern New Hampshire University in August 2020. Going back to school has allowed me to accomplish my goal of learning essential web development skills to accompany my skills in art and design. During my years at Southern New Hampshire University, I learned a lot about designing, implementing, and evaluating computing-based solutions for a variety of technology issues. The course I took in website design helped me learn more about applying HTML and CSS to satisfy client and user requirements. I also took a course in web and mobile user experience which helped me understand more about planning, researching, and implementing a web design project. I also learned effective communication skills within a professional environment while studying project management and implementing an in-app purchases component for a mobile application in my advanced systems implementation course. In between classes, I have also taken advantage of free resources online to help develop my skills in JavaScript and jQuery.
