Project Control Panel
Version 2.0 for Excel 95/97
Software Program Managers Network
March 1998

This file describes the files on this disk and installation
instructions.

The files on this disk or contained in this compressed file
represent the Introductory Version of the Control Panel
Software. The files in this release are:

README.TXT This file
CP20.XLS The Project Control Panel software -
Version 2.0. This MS Excel workbook requires
MS Excel 7.0 for Windows 95 or above.
USER20.DOC An MS Word 7.0 file containing user
information for installing and running the
              	Project Control Panel.
CP20.HLP A Windows help file that provides internal
				help to the Control Panel.

In addition to many minor improvements and corrections, the
primary new features found in the Project Control Panel
version 2.0 include:

1.	Excel-based vector graphics replace the bitmapped image
of the Control Panel. This improves the appearance of
the display and allows users to customize some aspects
of the Control Panel (primarily text labels). This will
also make possible the release of a Macintosh compatible
	version.

2.	An MS Project import routine allows for Earned value data
to be imported directly from an MS Project file. This routine
pulls data from the Project "Earned Value" table and writes
values directly into the Project Control Panel "Project Data"
	sheet.

3.	The ability to create user defined control panel sheets to
supplement the SPMN Project Control Panel. Customized control
panels can include dial gauges and bar gauges such as those
found on the SPMN Project Control Panel in combination with Excel
objects such as charts, text boxes.

System Requirements

The following minimum configuration is required:

IBM PC (or compatible) 486DX or better
     Mouse
     8 Mb RAM
     VGA Monitor
     Windows 95 or higher
Excel 7.0 for Windows 95 or higher

Installing the Software Project Control Panel for Excel

You do not have to run a Setup program to install the
Project Control Panel. The entire program and data
spreadsheets are contained in a single Excel workbook.
Simply copy the file CP20.XLS, along with its supporting
help file, CP20.HLP, onto your hard drive into the directory
of your choice. You may save or copy the workbook under
a different name to create specific control panels for
different applications.

Starting the Project Control Panel for Excel

To start the Project Control Panel you must first
start MS Excel. From within Excel:

1. Select File and then Open from the main menu bar.
2. Open the workbook file you installed on your hard drive
     in the previous step.
3. Click OK to remove the greeting screen.

The first worksheet in the workbook, the Project Control
Panel, will be displayed. The tabs at the bottom of your
screen indicate the other worksheets found in the workbook.
These are explained in the user guide. More information
about each of the Control Panel gauges is contained in the
user guide and the technical guide.

If you would like to register problems or suggest
improvements, a problem report form is included as one of
the worksheets in the Control Panel software workbook.
