A hard worker and dedicated musician, you love music, interacting respectfully with people, and shouldering truckloads of responsibility. People never hesitate to approach you with questions or criticism, since you listen to them calmly and attentively and then gently consider their comments. Friends often stop over to ask you for musical interpretations or just to chat about classical music.
As our Music Director, you will need to be prepared to sustain the whole MSYO organization on your own. Not that you will be on your own! You should be open and willing to discuss music ideas with ANYONE of the players or staff members and to stay extra hours to help out those who may be having a harder time with anything related to MSYO. You care for your associates not just as colleagues, but as people.
Since you will be the number one person in the organization, essentially, you will need to be ready to collaborate enthusiastically with the Executive Director on any and all matters, as well as with your Apprentices (Assistant Conductors). The unification of musical and adminstrative aspects will be up to you!
Muscially speaking, you should be familiar with the variety of instruments available to an orchestra, as well as with the various repertoire that exists. You must be willing to make weighty decisions all on your own, and to conduct 1-2 hour rehearsals every week on Tuesdays. A basic knowledge of theory and transposition is a must.
