AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions take place in a low-key setting to be arranged between the Music Director and the player. They should last about 10 minutes apiece. Please see the requirements for your instrument, listed below.
STRINGS: Please have TWO (2) contrasting works (or movements of a sonata or concerto) prepared, one slow and lyrical, the other fast and technical. Please also be ready to play ANY 3-octave scale (major and melodic minor, all keys) and to do a little sight-reading. (Note: sight-reading selections may vary from person to person.)
WINDS: Please have 2 contrasting works prepared, one slow and lyrical, the other fast and technical. Be ready for any scale, major and minor, all keys. There may be some sight-reading as well. You need only play on the primary instrument of your family. For example, clarinets only need to audition on a B-flat clarinet.
BRASS: Trumpets must have knowledge of transposition. All brass players should have two contrasting works ready, one slow and lyrical, the other fast and technical. Please be ready for any scale, major and minor, all keys. There could be some sightreading.
PERCUSSION: Percussionists will not audition live. Please send in a HIGH QUALITY tape demonstrating a wide variety of dynamics, rhythms, and other percussive techniques and abilities on snare drum, timpani, and a keyboard instrument (marimba, for example). An added bonus would be a demo on your ability on a drum set. Not having this last sample/demo will NOT affect your "audition."
PIANO: Please have two contrasting works ready, one slow and lyrical, the other fast and technical. Be ready for all scales, major and minor, all keys. Perhaps sight-reading will creep in somewhere!
